Getting to know Mushda Afghanzada

Life can become overwhelming when you're trying to manage anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship challenges, or major life transitions on your own. You don't have to carry those struggles alone. I believe healing begins in a space where you feel emotionally safe, respected, and genuinely understood, and I strive to create that environment for every client I work with.

What should a new client know about working with you?

After earning my Master of Social Work from Stony Brook University, I became passionate about helping adults navigate life's challenges in a supportive and meaningful way. I especially work with adults who experience stress, perfectionism, self-doubt, people pleasing tendencies, and the pressure of meeting expectations while trying to care for themselves. Many of the individuals I work with appear high-functioning on the outside but feel overwhelmed, stuck, or emotionally drained internally. I also recognize how family expectations, cultural dynamics, and personal identity can shape the way we experience stress, relationships, and self-worth. I aim to create a space where these experiences can be explored with curiosity, care, and without judgment. My approach is warm, collaborative, and grounded in genuine human connection. I believe meaningful change happens when clients feel safe to show up as their authentic selves without fear of judgement. Together, we’ll explore patterns that may be keeping you stuck, build on your strengths, and develop practical tools to support lasting change.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

I integrate evidence-based approaches including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment (ACT), and person-centered therapy, tailoring treatment to each client's unique needs, strengths, and goals. Whether you're working through anxiety, depression, trauma, self-esteem concerns, relationship difficulties, stress, or navigating important life changes, my goal is to help you feel empowered, supported, and equipped to create lasting change.
