Hi there, I'm Nancy! My name is Nancy Woods, and I am a licensed psychologist (PsyD) trained at Alliant International University. I am based in Orange County but have worked with clients via telehealth all over California. I work well with adults (age 17 and up) and specialize in trauma. I am trained and certified in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing therapy (EMDR). I use this modality because it can effectively address anxiety, depression, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and other mental health challenges. I will teach you skills to help manage your life experiences and lessen triggers. My approach My approach to therapy is based on seeing the whole person as an individual with problematic thoughts, feelings, or behaviors. All these elements help the client understand their own desire for wellness and support them in changing their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors into a more integrated whole, setting them on a path toward their desired goals. My communication style My communication style is calm, personable, and goal-oriented. I encourage clients to develop goals and strive to be accommodating and nonjudgmental. I want my clients to feel comfortable sharing anything they want or need to talk about, knowing I will be open and considerate of their feelings. My journey to mental healthcare My interest in therapy and psychology grew from my 23 years as a registered nurse in hospitals and other facilities. After receiving my nursing license in 1983, I noticed I was drawn to the psychological aspects of nursing-how patients reacted to stressors-and this inspired my path into mental health care.
