Patricia Carter, LCPC

Psychotherapist
KS
If you've been struggling with anxiety, feeling stuck in the same relationship patterns, or wondering why talk therapy hasn't quite clicked , you're exactly who I work with. I'm a licensed counselor with 22 years of experience specializing in anxiety, couples counseling, and neurofeedback. My style is laid back and conversational, sessions feel less like an appointment and more like finally talking to someone who gets it. I use evidence-based approaches including EMDR, CBT, and the Gottman Method, and I hold a Board Certification in Neurofeedback (BCN), one of the few therapists in the Kansas City area offering this brain-based, drug-free approach. I offer telehealth throughout Kansas and Nebraska, and in-person neurofeedback at my Overland Park, KS office, with weekday and evening availability.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Sessions with me are pretty relaxed — there's no rigid agenda or clipboard. I follow your lead, trust my intuition about where things need to go, and let conversations unfold naturally. People often tell me they leave feeling like they actually figured something out, rather than just talked about their problems.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

During the first session, I seek to understand what's going on for you, what you've already tried, and what you're hoping will be different. We'll figure out together what makes the most sense — there's no one-size-fits-all approach here. For anxiety and trauma I draw on CBT and EMDR. For couples I use the Gottman Method to help you understand each other better and break out of the patterns that keep you stuck. And for clients who feel like talk therapy alone hasn't been enough, I offer neurofeedback, a brain-based approach that works at a nervous system level and pairs really well with the conversation side of therapy.
