Getting to know Pericles Kolias

I believe that many of our struggles begin to soften when they are understood rather than judged. Therapy offers an opportunity to replace self-criticism with curiosity, creating space for greater insight, healing, and lasting change. I offer in-person therapy in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, and virtual therapy throughout New York. I work with adults and couples navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship challenges, life transitions, identity, intimacy, self-worth, and questions of meaning and belonging. Many of my clients are thoughtful, curious, and psychologically minded people who have spent years trying to understand themselves, yet continue to feel stuck in recurring emotional or relationship patterns. My practice is LGBTQ+ affirming and welcomes people from diverse cultural backgrounds, including immigrants and those navigating life between cultures, as well as clients exploring sexuality, spirituality, and alternative relationship structures. My approach is warm, collaborative, relational, and depth-oriented. I integrate psychodynamic therapy, attachment theory, mindfulness, and trauma-informed care to create a therapeutic process tailored to your unique needs. Rather than offering quick advice or one-size-fits-all solutions, I help clients better understand themselves, navigate life’s challenges with greater resilience, build healthier relationships, and create meaningful, lasting change.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Therapy with me is thoughtful, collaborative, and grounded in genuine human connection. I understand emotional suffering not simply as something to eliminate, but as something to listen to. In our work together, we will explore how early relationships, attachment patterns, culture, family history, and lived experience continue to shape the present. Rather than offering quick solutions, I help clients develop greater self-awareness, emotional resilience, and the capacity to relate to themselves and others with more compassion, authenticity, and freedom. I earned my Master’s degree in Integral Counseling Psychology from the California Institute of Integral Studies, one of the country’s leading graduate programs in holistic and humanistic psychotherapy. My training emphasized the integration of mind, body, culture, spirituality, and relationships, shaping the way I understand healing as both deeply personal and inherently relational. I am also a certified Mindfulness Meditation Teacher through Dharma Moon and Tibet House US, and thoughtfully integrate mindfulness and contemplative practices when they support each client’s therapeutic journey. Before becoming a therapist, I spent over a decade in the contemporary art world. That experience continues to shape the way I listen—with patience, openness, and an appreciation for nuance, creativity, and the many ways people communicate what cannot always be expressed directly. In therapy, I bring this same attention to the subtle, symbolic, and often unspoken dimensions of experience, helping clients find language for what has long felt difficult to name. Whether you’re seeking support for anxiety, relationship concerns, a difficult life transition, questions around identity or sexuality, or simply a deeper understanding of yourself, my hope is that therapy becomes a place where you feel accepted, understood, and gently challenged to grow.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Our first few sessions focus on understanding what brings you to therapy and getting to know the experiences, relationships, and emotional patterns that have shaped your life. While we will certainly address your immediate concerns, we will also explore the deeper themes that may be contributing to them, helping us create a therapy that feels meaningful rather than simply reactive. As our work develops, we pay close attention to recurring relationship patterns, attachment, self-esteem, anxiety, grief, shame, identity, intimacy, and the ways past experiences continue to influence the present. I believe many of our struggles make sense when understood within the larger context of our lives, and therapy offers an opportunity to approach those experiences with greater compassion instead of criticism. My goal is to help you not only reduce distress but also develop a deeper understanding of yourself, build healthier relationships, communicate more authentically, and feel more grounded in the life you want to create. Over time, many clients find themselves becoming less driven by old patterns and more able to respond to life with flexibility, confidence, and self-compassion.

Working with Pericles has helped me slow down and make sense of things I often struggled to put into words. He brings warmth, patience, and insight to each session, and I always leave feeling more grounded and connected to myself.
I appreciate Pericles’ wisdom, thoughtfulness, and authenticity. I’ve learned a lot from him and can feel his genuine desire to help me grow. He is great at going beneath what’s on the surface and noticing patterns and dynamics that are easy for me to miss. I cannot recommend him enough!!!
Pericles was extraordinarily helpful and thoughtful in our sessions. It was immediately clear to me that he is deep and compassionate listener, which really helped me to get comfortable in my own process and allowed me to share at my own pace and in a more meaningful way than I have been able to in the past. I feel fortunate to have found him and am encouraged that such caring and thoughtful help is available for myself and for others. I highly recommend Pericles.
Pericles is someone who met me with warmth and openness. He offered me insight into my problems and also supported me pushing back on him when I disagreed with an interpretation. I especially appreciate the times when he was proud of me for speaking my truth to him because that is something I am actively cultivating in all of my relationships - the ability to trust and be vulnerable. He helped me to practice that in the safety of the therapeutic alliance. Pericles also helped me to explore my understanding of my sexuality and queerness. He was very patient with and met me where I was at on my journey.
Pericles is supportive, attentive, and genuinely easy to work with. He helped me feel more clear and steady during a stressful time, and I always felt heard and respected. I’m grateful for our work together and would recommend him.
Pericles was a very helpful therapist in the year and a half that we worked together. He helped me learn how to pause and reflect before reacting to situations I found myself in. I never felt negatively judged and his professional energy was warm and calm. I highly recommend him.
Pericles has been a wonderful therapist. He is a great listener and brings wisdom from various spiritual traditions, which I found to be very healing and grounding. He supported me through challenging seasons and helped me grow personally. I recommend him without hesitation.
Over the past 18 months, Pericles has been an invaluable resource for my mental health and personal growth. He is kind, conscientious, and methodical, which made me feel supported and confident that I was progressing. His professionalism, flexibility, and consistency—especially in our weekly in-person sessions—made a meaningful difference compared with my experiences with other therapists. He is an exceptional listener: he consistently remembered details from previous sessions and skillfully connected them to our current work. I highly recommend Pericles to anyone seeking thoughtful, effective mental health care.
Pericles is warm, thoughtful, and easy to talk to. He helped me better understand patterns I was stuck in, and make changes I could actually sustain. I’m grateful for the support and would recommend him.
Pericles is reflective, thoughtful, and deep while still feeling very alive and very human. Working with him as my therapist has felt healing and generative! I recommend him fully.
