Getting to know Peter O'Herron

I have been curious about people throughout my life, always making friends with the quirky kids in school. After obtaining a Bachelors in psychology I traveled Europe for a few months and then went to work in a psychiatric hospital to gain experience meeting people with all kinds of problems as well as cutting edge psychiatric treatments. While working there for 10 years I obtained addiction counselor training and my social work degree as I believed social workers were the best equipped to help the most people to make lasting change. I spent the next 9 years as a social worker in various settings helping people of all ages to resolve or cope with a wide range of issues from addiction, to severe mental illness and relationship conflicts. I have spent the last 18 years working in a community outreach program focused on client centered treatment in their homes. During this time I mentored and supervised many of my coworkers and was promoted to program supervisor which took me away from direct clinical work, yet my passion has always been with helping people one on one.

What should a new client know about working with you?

My approach is to develop a relationship where you feel seen, heard, and valued for who you are. I know you are the only expert about you, and my role is to support and guide you through challenges by helping you recognize, build and tap into your strengths, and guide you toward better-informed decisions about steps toward the goals you choose. Ultimately, my success is when you have achieved your goals and I have had the honor to walk alongside you for a short while in your journey toward solutions, healing and/or self- discovery.
