Psychotherapist

“You only have to let the soft animal of your body love what it loves.” - Mary Oliver Thank you for finding me here. It takes courage and energy to seek out a therapist who feels like a genuine fit, and I deeply appreciate your investment in your own wellbeing. I am committed to supporting you in whatever way feels most meaningful to you, whether that is healing, reflecting, or simply being witnessed. I am a queer, Asian, bilingual therapist working with adults and teens navigating anxiety, identity, relationships, trauma, and life transitions. As someone who has lived and studied across cultures, I understand deeply how disorienting it can feel to search for belonging in a new country, in a changing body, in relationships that no longer fit who you are becoming. I am particularly passionate about working with LGBTQIA+, BIPOC, individuals exploring non-traditional relationships, and those who have felt unseen or pathologized in traditional therapeutic spaces. My approach is rooted in psychodynamic, trauma-informed, and relational frameworks. I believe the therapeutic relationship itself is a space for healing. Together, we build a place where old patterns can be gently examined, where grief and shame can be acknowledged, and where something new can begin to grow. I draw from somatic awareness and mindfulness to help you connect the past to the present, noticing how your stories live in your body, in relationships, and in everyday life. Therapy doesn’t have to be limited to words. If you are drawn to expressive approaches, such as movement, art, drama, or creative writing, I welcome those as doorways into parts of yourself that language alone cannot always reach. If something here resonates with you. * Please be advised that Qianyi has a provisional license as a psychotherapist with the title of Mental Health Counselor – Limited Permit and works under the supervision of Katarzyna Dlugosz, LMHC-D as an employee of KDMHC.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I see the whole person, not just the presenting issue. I am dedicated to creating space for clients from marginalized communities to show up fully, without having to explain or filter themselves. Much of our work happens in the "in-between": how it feels to be in the room together, what comes up in our relationship, and what your body and emotions are telling you in the present moment. I draw on somatic awareness and mindfulness to help you notice and attend to what is alive right now, while also connecting those experiences to deeper patterns and history. I am open to working beyond talk therapy through expressive approaches such as movement, art, drama, and creative writing.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

I begin by building a genuine therapeutic relationship, because I believe that trust and safety are the foundation for real change. Before setting goals, I take time to understand you through your story, identity, and culture. From there, we work collaboratively to explore patterns, feelings, and relationships. I often close sessions with a brief mindfulness or movement practice and check in on how the work is feeling.
