Getting to know Rachael Houston

If you have been thinking about speaking with a therapist, chances are that it's time. Talking to a stranger about the most intimate details of your life can be an intimidating feat to overcome, and being vulnerable can be scary. That is why it's my goal to create a safe space for you to feel comfortable exploring and processing your thoughts and emotions. I recognize the importance of developing a genuine connection that feels like a ‘natural fit,' and aim to make you feel unconditionally accepted and supported. My specialty is helping young adults and adolescents who suffer from anxiety, depression, and trauma. Much of my success has come from helping clients with transitions, relationship issues, and work-related stress. I only utilize evidence-based treatments that are clinically proven to promote mental wellness. Through increased insight and self-awareness, I help clients lead authentic, fulfilling lives that improve relationships with themselves and others. One's life experience provides meaningful context to their present, and I am passionate about helping clients understand the impact of this relationship. Whether it's the daily grind, relationship issues, or a significant life event, I believe our work together will be a proactive approach to enhancing your quality of life. I hold a Master's in Clinical Social Work from Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, which has equipped me with the knowledge and skills to provide compassionate, effective care.

What should a new client know about working with you?

My style in session is warm, compassionate, and direct when needed. Clients can expect to feel unconditionally supported and accepted beginning at the very first session. Sessions are a safe space where clients can practice building trust, improving skills, and developing resilience to cope with life's stressors with a clinically licensed professional.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

The first session is spent making you feel comfortable, learning about what you would like to get out of therapy, and developing a plan together that will help you meet your goals. I recognize that it can be difficult opening up to a complete stranger for the first time, so a lot of my process in the beginning of treatment is connecting with the client in such a way that makes change possible.

Rachael is one of the most naturally gifted therapist that I have seen in my years of going to therapy. She is upfront but gentle in her approach when helping me become aware of my maladaptive behaviors. From the first meeting with her, I felt I had skills to tackle the obstacles in my week. Her vast knowledge and good sense of humor make her incredibly relatable for me. She's smart, intuitive, respectful and caring. Can't recommend her enough.
