Getting to know Rachel Kendal

Hi, my name is Rachel Kendal. I am a mental health counselor with my limited permit (MHC-LP) in the state of New York. I earned my Bachelor's degree from the University of Florida and graduated from St. John's University with my M.S. Ed. in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. I am also a student in Adelphi's Clinical Psychology Ph.D. program. My primary approach in therapy is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) combined with a person-centered approach. I specialize in working with adolescents and adults struggling with addiction, depression, anxiety, and other daily or life stressors.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Counseling is about showing unconditional positive regard and empathy to individuals who are in need of extra support while going through life’s unpredictable obstacles. Sometimes it may feel like you have no one to turn to when experiencing these obstacles. I will be that someone who provides you with a comfortable and safe environment through listening and providing you with the guidance you need.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

As a clinician, I will work collaboratively with my clients to find the best possible tools to improve their mental health. I am aware that each individual is unique and will require different approaches to reach their goals. For this reason, I possess a strong multicultural awareness and believe this is crucial as a clinician. While everyone’s journey is different, my priority is always the same, making your life easier. With mindset/thinking adjustments and the development of a tool kit filled with personalized coping skills, I am confident that I will be able to help my clients get through life’s unpredictable obstacles.
