Getting to know Dr. Rachel Tayler

As a therapist, I strive to meet you where you are and form a genuine connection. I am an active therapist who aims to be open, non-judgmental, and flexible. Cultural norms, identity, and context deeply inform how we work together. In my view, successful therapy eases your suffering, increases your insight, and helps you find meaning. My goal is to support you as you navigate life’s most challenging and rewarding moments. I hold a PhD in Clinical Psychology from The City College of New York, a Master’s degree from the London School of Economics and Political Science, a Post-Baccalaureate Certificate from Columbia University, and a Bachelor’s degree from Haverford College. My specialty areas include the pre/postnatal period, early parenthood, navigating life transitions, grief, and bi/cultural identity exploration and development, as well as interracial and cultural relationships.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I am licensed clinical psychologist who works with adolescents, individuals, and couples. I am integrative, drawing from a foundation of relational and developmental theories, while incorporating skills from evidence-based approaches, including Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Interpersonal Psychotherapy (IPT), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT).

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Typically, we will meet on a weekly basis with each session lasting 45-50 minutes for individuals, and 60 minutes for couples. You may come in prepared with something specific that you’d like to address, or without any agenda. Either way, we can accomplish meaningful work. Sessions are offered in person on Mondays, or via telehealth. My office is located in Brooklyn Heights (near the Court St and Borough Hall subway stations).

More information on payments and coverage

I am an out of network provider, which means that I do not work with any insurance plans or companies directly. However, many insurance policies have out of network benefits that you can use to help pay for therapy. I recommend calling the number on the back of your insurance card and asking them what benefits you have as part of your plan. I am able to provide you with a “superbill” which you can submit to your insurance company for reimbursement. I accept cash, check, all major credit cards, and HSA cards.
