“In short, Ray is great. Insightful, inquisitive and makes me think about things... So far, so good. I would appreciate more feedback in regards to his thoughts on me, my goals, my progress, any other things I should or should not be doing to attain my goals. Getting to know Raymond Batista

Practice update: In-person sessions are now available on Wednesdays in Union Square. As a first- or second-generation BIPOC person, do you feel caught between family expectations, your own dreams, and your personal needs? As someone who may be labeled “other,” are you constantly code-switching or suppressing who you truly are to navigate different environments? Do you find yourself over-giving to the point of lacking time or resources for yourself? These experiences can easily lead to feelings of depression, anxiety, emotional exhaustion in relationships, and a sense of unfulfillment. My clients come to me facing these challenges, and after working together, they report living lives that align with their values on every level. They gain a more empowered ability to take up space in the world as BIPOC and/or LGBTQ+ individuals and develop the confidence to ask for and receive more in their relationships—both professionally and personally. I hold a Master’s in Social Work from Fordham University and take the time to truly get to know my clients. I work in a way that empowers them to identify and dissolve old narratives keeping them stuck in unsatisfying relationships or situations. My approach is both conversational and deeply reflective. If this resonates with you, I would love to hear from you for a complimentary consultation.

What should a new client know about working with you?

As a therapist who is a clinical social worker, my guiding principles include looking at the person through the context of their environment and their history. Therapy cannot be ahistorical and must always look at the impact of someone's current and intergenerational trauma because of the powerful narratives those events create. I also think that it's important to create a non-judgmental space where people can spontaneously be their true selves.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

I usually offer clients a free 15-20 minute no-commitment phone consultation to discuss what brings you in, my approach, and to help you assess whether it might be a good fit to work together. I think one of the most important predictors of success in therapy is finding the right fit for you.

Raymond has a very kind approach and helps shape your thinking so that you can identify the things that you need to dig deep down to identify.
Ray is a very thoughtful and insightful therapist. He allowed me room to speak my mind and tell my story while tying all the pieces together to help me see the big picture and find the best course of action. I am a big reader as well and he always had an article or study for me to go back and look into for further insight to whatever issue I was dealing with. I would highly recommend him!
