“Rebecca is by far the most caring and thoughtful therapist I have had the pleasure to work with. I first started seeing Rebecca for EMDR therapy to address trauma related to the sudden loss of my partner, and I am so glad that I found her. She helped me work through the trauma so I could begin to grieve and heal. She is caring and compassionate, but also asked the tough questions that I needed to hear in order to be honest about how I was feeling. She is always respectful, patient, and thoughtful in her approach. I strongly recommend Rebecca.”

Getting to know Rebecca Mitchell

Frequently, people who have experienced trauma develop extraordinary survival skills. Often, the strategies that were critical for survival during childhood can hinder the ability to develop satisfying work, family, and romantic relationships in adulthood. Psychotherapy provides an opportunity to transcend patterns that hold you back from achieving your goals and realizing your potential. This process often includes addressing family, career, and relationship issues within treatment, as well as recognizing thinking and behavior that may be harmful or limiting. I hold a Master’s in Social Work from Hunter College, City University of New York, which informs my compassionate and effective approach to supporting clients through these challenges.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I specialize in the treatment of PTSD, anxiety and depression, and am certified in EMDR, and am trained in Internal Family Systems (IFS). My practice is influenced by psychodynamic, experiential and mindfulness-based therapies. We will spend our first sessions exploring important historical information, assessing your needs, and setting goals.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

I strive to nurture relationships with clients that are compassionate, kind, and non-judgmental, yet safe enough to tolerate direct but gentle confrontation. Together we will determine the holistic approach and pace that will work best for you.

From the moment I walked into her office, I felt a sense of warmth and understanding that immediately put me at ease. Her expertise and dedication is evident in every session, and her approach to therapy has truly transformed my life. The most remarkable aspect is her ability to create a safe and non-judgmental space for me to explore my thoughts and emotions. She has a remarkable gift for active listening, always fully present and engaged in our sessions. Her genuine empathy and compassion have allowed me to open up and share my deepest fears and concerns without hesitation.
