Getting to know Richard Forde

I am a Christian, trauma-informed therapist specializing in EMDR & IFS for adults navigating trauma, emotional pain, and spiritual disconnection. Many individuals seeking therapy experience emotional and physical symptoms related to relationship stress, and I help them work through these issues from a trauma-informed perspective. My goal is to guide clients from "survival mode" toward strength and resiliency. I have over twenty years of experience working in church settings and private practice. I hold a Master’s degree in Community Counseling from Georgia State University.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I work from a 'trauma-informed' perspective and have training and experience using EMDR and related modes of therapy. EMDR works directly with the 'brain system' to resolve negative beliefs and disturbing experiences which are "held in the body." We aim to move from "survival" to "strength" and help clients come to peace with their "story."

What is your typical process for working with clients?

I provide a compassionate and supportive, clinically excellent, counseling experience. I work well with self-motivated adults seeking to grow and heal. I would be honored to support you on your journey.

I have a deep, sincere appreciation for what counseling with Richard Forde has done for me. I know that God granted HIS wisdom through Richard to guide me as I needed. I am truly grateful for being able to connect with Mr. Forde and experience the benefits from his guidance.
Richard Forde is a gifted counselor in many ways. His multifaceted approach to counseling attends to the whole of a person: physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. He is focused on getting his clients the assistance, help, and support they need. His nuanced approach and the tools he utilizes can help one to move from a place of feeling stuck, hurt, traumatized, anxious, confused or overwhelmed towards being healed, healthy, informed, hopeful and well. He is a counselor that assists in accountability and helps by encouraging his clients to do the necessary work for their growth and development. Counseling is a journey. But, I can assure you that in Richard Forde you will find a knowledgeable, gracious, compassionate, and personable counselor who genuinely cares about his clients as well as their continued growth, development, and success. I am thankful I reached out and found the counselor that I needed in this season of life!
Richard helped me feel comfortable facing my childhood traumas and working through my triggers in relationships. He was supportive and non-judgemental. He gave me tools and resources to use in every day life. I would recommend him to any friend of mine.
Richard is phenomenal, truly listens!
I have seen a handful of counselors and Dr. Forde helped me the most. He is knowledgeable in his field. He understands how the body and mind work together. I also like how he takes notes during our sessions. This shows me that he puts effort into listening and truly cares about our session. He helped me learn how to work through different thoughts and feelings healthily. I would recommend Dr. Forde to anyone seeking to better themselves, mentally and emotionally.
Richard Forde has been a wonderful counselor. My experience before him with counseling was that I recalled traumatic experiences and was left feeling vulnerable and raw. But working with Richard each session I feel as if I have gained something precious whether it be a new perspective, tool, or awareness. I leave my sessions feeling good and curious instead of depressed and down. His approach to trauma work was much different than I had previously experienced and I had to be more open, I quickly began to enjoy the work better. His approach style allows me to process things that presently come up instead of just recalling what I know to have been traumatic experiences. I have found many things that I didn’t realize I had been holding onto through our work. He is also the first male counselor I have worked with personally and I feel very comfortable working with him even revisiting birth trauma.
Richard is very intuitive and intentional in his approach. His presence is very inviting and calming. He specifically helps you work through your trauma at a deep level. He’s well informed and constantly learning and refining his methods and thought process. I can’t recommend him enough!
