Patient reviews for Richard Horowitz, LCSW
I have seen Richard around 5 times now, and he has been very helpful to my emotional well-being. He is empathetic and a great listener. Occasionally he will talk about his own experiences and give anecdotes, which I really enjoy! It is nice to feel like you are speaking to another person, rather than the stereotypical 'therapist.' He also gives homework after sessions sometimes, which I like. In our first appointment, he set some groundwork regarding both his and my expectations, which was helpful. He is also very organized - always sees me in a timely manner, and set up the insurance paperwork right away.
Filled out paperwork before visit which was nice. Attentive and provided a good plan for addressing mental health
Richard is a great conversationalist and an even better listener. Gentle. Cozy office. I’m going to stick with him. And that says a lot.
Richard is extremely personable and understanding, which helped me feel comfortable being much more open than I usually would in a first session. He set some ground rules and explained his approach and what he has experience helping people deal with, which helped clarify what to expect from the sessions.
I am lucky to be seeing Richard. A last minute cancellation by another patient opened up an appointment for me. My meeting this week will be my sixth visit. Not only does he have great bed side manner, he has helped me better understand myself and most importantly, bring to surface many of my issues which I have been avoiding for years. We discuss them and he provides an unbiased third person point of view. It’s easy to blame yourself for issues with others especially those who mean a great to you. Richard helped me realize that is not always correct. Even my relationships with my parents and my significant other have improved. You’d be lucky to see him.
I've gone to Richard several times and have found him to be a very effective therapist. He's willing to sit back to allow you to speak your mind, but also offers thoughtful feedback in each session. I've never felt like I'm speaking to a "wall", like some other therapist's sessions can sometimes feel. In addition to this, there is never any time wasted. He remembers the specifics of the previous conversation, and I pick up immediately where I left off on the last session. Finally and possibly most importantly, he's proven himself to be a trustworthy, non-judgmental, and empathetic person who has the well-being of his patient first and foremost in his mind. If you're seeking a safe space to work through any personal struggles that you might be dealing with, I highly recommend Richard.
My first visit with Richard was so helpful. He is a very kind, warm and intuitive man who genuinely cares and wants you to succeed in life. He shared personal stories putting me at ease and gave me a homework assignment to work on in the interim until our next appointment. Highly recommend !
Richard is very friendly and makes you immediately feel at ease. He does a good job of allowing you plenty of time to reflect on your thoughts and do self-assessment before trying push you to dig deeper or to move on. He's unafraid to give advice/opinions, even if they may be not what you want to hear which is good for growth, but he's always very respectful in how he does so. Overall, a great experience thus far.
He was very attentive, patient, understanding, informative and easy to talk to.Can't wait for my next visit.
I visited four time. He did not give me a big picture of how the treatment is going. And He asked me just not expect immediate result. And he does not want to drive the talk. After I talked about my issues, he just say he does not agree, without any explanation. Or saying something try relax, try not to push yourself, without saying how. I feel it is a total waste of my time other than there is a person listening to you.
No any results for me, he may be able to help other people.
Great easygoing demeanor. Friendly and concerned. I feel I am in good hands.
My appointment with Richard was incredibly productive. I’ve been to four or five therapists before and he’s the first that I feel comfortable enough around to be completely open. His insights were grounded and thought provoking. He’s not one to sit there and nod his head at you and pretend to care, he seemed to have taken a particular interest in my life story and the issues I’m having. He offered the perfect ratio of listening/discussing which I’ve found to be serendipitous based on the other therapists I’ve seen.
The first visit seemed more like a frequent visit with Richard. He was friendly, down to earth and engaging. I love that he matches experiences with me with his stories, his stories seem to have powerful but clear messages and they are impactful. I left Richards office feeling comfortable and with a sense of purpose. I am definitely looking forward to the next visit with Richard because im wondering how does it get better. His message (words) seems to have a healthy translation.
Richard is totally engaged and personable therapist. After mediocre experiences with therapists in the past, I didn’t expect much, especially in the first visit, but he transformed the way I thought about seeing a therapist. First off, he called soon after I booked an appointment to check in with my health insurance information and give me helpful, detailed information about pricing and how to reach his office. At the appointment, he wasn’t afraid to chime in with questions that felt truly necessary to understand the issues, he laid down a whole bunch of rules that made me feel like he respected himself and me, and he assigned homework from the onset that showed that he wasn’t going to just sit and be an ear to prattle on at. He seems like he is really in the right profession and amazing at what he does.
Richard was very personable, comfortable office, and connected immediately.
Very welcoming and warm!! Discussion goes both ways which is nice. Highly recommend!
Richard has been nothing but warm, welcoming, patient, and understanding throughout my time with him. I look forward too each session with him as a much needed stress release and an opportunity to better myself. He has consulted me both individually and with my partner, where he proved to be a capable mediator. He is very in-tune with the struggles of living as an artist in the city and is always encouraging when it comes to pursuing the things in life that gives one passion.
Very warm first visit, looking forward to many more sessions with Richard.
I had just come out of a bad relationship when I went to see Richard, and had a lot of pent up anger and other emotions. He is a good listener, pays very good attention, I felt like there was no time in between sessions, he always knew exactly where we had left our last session, and he has a subtle and sensitive way of helping you get to certain realizations on your own, very quickly. Even after the first session I felt immense relief. I got back feeling like myself in no time at all. It was the help that I needed.
Richard has changed my life on so many levels, and I cannot recommend him highly enough. I’m legitimately puzzled how anyone could rate him anything other than 5 for 5. He is genuinely understanding, kind and has imparted on me great tactics to overcome my once weaknesses (anxiety, , negative thoughts, depression..etc). I directly attribute my positivity, energy and love for my life to his compassionate words of wisdom. My visits with Richard have gravitated toward more of a friendship bond, given his great capacity for concern and care for me. I look forward to my visits with Richard and will continue to use him despite being in a “good” place in life. Thank you, sincerely, for helping to change my life and by result the lives of each in my family and circle of friends. Ps. Make sure to make mention of the interesting artwork and articles around his office, you’ll soon find yourself in a great discussion regarding his travels of the world. His skill for quality therapy is only rivaled by his story telling abilities.
Dr Horowitz is a genuinely caring individual, an avid listener and exceptional therapist. He put me at ease of my worries from the moment I walked in and I look forward to each session. Definitely recommend.
Richard called me before my appointment to give me directions as to how to get to his office. When I got there, the session started right on time, and he had already filled out my paperwork for me himself - so all I needed to do was sign my name in a couple of places. If you live in New York and ever go to an appt, you know this is very rare! He is kind, and funny, and obviously cares deeply about his work. Would recommend!
Professional, warm and a great listener. Asks good questions that make you think beyond the normal “how does this make you feel.” Our sessions are productive and I walk away feeling like I’ve made progress.
I felt comfortable with Richard right away. This is my first experience with therapy and I could not ask for a better professional!
I agree Richard has a strong personality as a therapist (sometimes), but he is kind and genuine. Besides, going to therapy is as if going to a gym; you are your own problem overall. Don't expect things will get better after a couple of therapy sessions. Thank you Richard, I finally get my sit together.
He was good in the beginning but later session, in the middle of our conversation, he took his phone and texted someone. That was very rude even for a friend. Let alone this is his profession to pay attention to the patient.
He’s a great man, very kind and understanding.
An interaction with Richard is like interacting with Robin Williams in Goodwill Hunting -- he's both warm and challenging. I personally went through a handful of therapists looking for the right one (which is a challenge in NYC), and within the first five minutes I knew I wanted to move forward with this man. He's a good listener, but also a good sharer, giving directional input and wisdom-filled advice when appropriate. Within two sessions I have already found greater inner peace from an offhand insight he delivered to me about my relationship with a past partner, which also was a greater insight about my life. I look forward to my following sessions, or as he would describe, "the beginning of the journey." P.S. if Moulin Rouge was a physical location, it would be his office.
My meeting with Richard was great, he helped me see clearer in my current situation. After our dissolutions Richard took weight of my chest and relieved my anxiety. I'm very thankful for the support and care that Richard offered me in our sessions.
I was surprised. I’ve been to a few therapists in the past but this was different. I felt heard. Not only did he listen, but he engaged me and challenged my perspective on my situation. I hopeful that I will be able to learn some tools to help deal with fear and anxiety.
Has been very helpful thus far. Doesn't just let me talk about my problems, but provides personal anecdotes that relate to my problems and help me see them in a new light. Has also been helpful in connecting me to other professionals to help me with other issues.
Richard is a great and practical therapist with an understanding of an artists issues specifically. I would definitely recommend him.
Very attentive and knowledgable. Looking forward to seeing Richard in the future.
I began meeting with Richard and right away, he has been a fantastic therapist. I could tell through his warm, attentive presence that I can be comfortable talking to him. He is a great listener and I enjoy his candor and feedback. I am looking forward to all of my future visits with him.
Mr Horowitz is a lovely man. He has a warm and friendly manner and I felt comfortable talking to him.
Very good rapport on first visit. Insightful and a good listener. I'm looking forward to future visits.
Richard made me feel very comfortable during our first and second visit. He’s personable and kind. I am so happy I’ve found a therapist that I feel I can work through my problems with. I am looking forward to working with him.
Richard is one of the warmest people I've ever had the privilege of speaking with. He's also a very real, no-nonsense, old school New Yorker. What more could you ask for? Some people have what's called a "positive affective presence," which means you're put at ease in their presence. Richard is one of those people. I feel better every time I leave his office. He's a good listener, and non-judgmental - but he contributes as well. I still do most of the talking but it's a conversation, and I like that a lot. I've seen therapists that say almost nothing, sparingly ask questions, and it never felt like I got very much out of that. Richard, thankfully, is different, and I cannot recommend him enough.
I've met him twice and so far so good. He is very insightful, understanding, wise, humble, positive and inspiring person. I can tell he is a genuinely nice person. He is a great listener too. I'm looking forward going my next session.
Richard is very experienced professional and a careful listener.. Visited him several times and can ensure high level of his professionalism during sessions. Highly recommend him
First appointment was okay but the second was awful. I don’t know who is writing these reviews but this guy is a little off. I described some simple aspects of my lifestyle and he seemed shocked and just kept shaking his head no. Strange man.
He was great!
It was a great first visit. We are still getting to know each other, but was very easy to talk to and it was a comfortable atmosphere.
Richard is great! This is my first therapist and he was very good at making me feel comfortable talking to him and making sure that we work together to get past my struggles. So far I'm excited to continue going to his sessions.
Wonderful engaged awesome
My visit with Richard was great. He was very compassionate, a great listener, and he offered excellent advice and comforting words. I look forward to visiting him again and would highly recommend him!
I was immediately put at ease upon meeting Richard. Looking forward to my next session.
Richard is the first therapist I've ever seen, and my experience with him has been very positive. He was thorough during the preceding period with regards to insurance and logistics, and since I've started seeing him, he's been helpful. He is less in your face and didactic in his therapy, much more of a listener who many times has led me to my own breakthroughs and understanding simply via listening and guiding the conversation subtly. Visits with Richard are part of my routine now and i relish that.
it’s my first time in therapy and Richard has been patient - he talks during your sessions which makes it feel like a conversation and less intimidating!
