Dr. Rick D'Arca, PhD

Psychologist
OH
Greetings. Writing an introduction as a mental health care provider seems a bit awkward, but I'll give it a go. I've been in the field for 45 years, have had a wide variety of experiences with a wide variety of people, love my work, and always give my best. My approach I like to think of people as being driven by thinking, feeling, behavior, and physiology--but it is the thinking and behavior that we have the most control over. Positive changes in those two areas often lead to positive changes in our feelings and other aspects of life. My focus I consider myself a generalist who has worked in community mental health for many years. Because of this, I have seen people from very diverse backgrounds with a wide variety of mental health concerns. I consider myself fortunate to have worked with those who are homeless and with those who are millionaires. My communication style My interpersonal style is supportive and gentle, but also direct and to the point. I don't like psychobabble and don't use it if at all possible. My journey to mental healthcare Like many young people entering adulthood, I was not entirely certain what I wanted to do vocationally. I started college as a music education major, but ended up switching to psychology when I realized I needed to do some work on myself to get life sorted out. I thought I might like that field because I was always helping others as a teen, but now I was in a position where I needed to help myself. So I learned a whole bunch of stuff about people, why they do what they do, and how they can change for the better. Mental health work turned out to be a good fit for me, but I still practice and perform music every chance that I get. My life wouldn't be whole without it. My goals for you People seeking mental health services for the first time don't always know exactly what they need to work on in counseling. We typically set some initial goals, but that often changes with time as the therapy issues become more well-defined.
