Getting to know Robert Gerl
I am a fully licensed psychologist and hold licenses as a professional counselor, clinical social worker, and marriage and family therapist in the State of Michigan. I am board certified in School Neuropsychology and an approved supervisor for counseling (ACS) and marriage and family therapy (AAMFT). I earned my PhD from Capella University. I have worked in a variety of settings, including psychiatric hospitals, private practice, group practice, and as a consultant. For over 15 years, I served in public schools as a school psychologist and director of special education, working with various child issues and special needs children until I retired from schools. I have experience with psychological testing and report writing. My clinical work includes Cognitive Behavior Therapy, behavior planning, and addressing parenting issues. I have worked with couples and families and have been trained in Gottman's therapy and Virginia Satir's methods. I am also EMDR trained and have worked with various trauma situations. I encourage work outside of therapy sessions by recommending tasks, books, and videos to help strengthen the work we do. The focus is always on the client, their needs, and monitoring progress.
