Getting to know Ruby Miller-Gootnick

I work with adolescents and adults across a range of life stages, including many young adults navigating transitions, uncertainty, challenges in their relationships, and questions of identity. Clients may also be feeling stuck, overwhelmed, disconnected from themselves, or caught in patterns that are hard to understand or change. My goal is to help clients understand themselves more deeply and move through life with greater clarity and intention.

What should a new client know about working with you?

My approach is psychodynamic and strengths-based. Therapy can help bridge the gap between understanding ourselves and being able to make the changes we want. By looking honestly at the patterns that shape us, we can create more room to live in ways that feel meaningful, intentional, and true to who we are. Before becoming a therapist, I spent nearly a decade teaching middle school. What I loved most were the moments when I could sit with a student, listen closely, understand what was really going on, and help them work through it. That part of teaching ultimately led me to become a therapist.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Therapy with me is warm, active, and conversational, with room for both humor and seriousness. Reaching out can feel like a big step, and you don’t need to have everything figured out before you begin. If you are looking for a space where you can feel understood, think deeply, and also be thoughtfully challenged, I would love to meet you!
