Getting to know Ruth Salen

My goal is to help you develop self-awareness, better communication and more satisfaction in your life. Through fostering a collaborative environment we can begin to explore areas in your life where you may have felt challenged, anxious and/or stuck and develop insights and tools to increase your sense of personal fulfillment and emotional well-being. Through this exploration we will identify old patterns of behavior and beliefs that have been limiting you and help you begin to move forward in your life. I earned my Masters of Social Work Degree from Smith College School for Social Work and I am in advanced clinical psychoanalytic training at The Training Institute for Mental Health. I welcome the opportunity to work with you in a hybrid model–offering both telehealth and in-person appointments at this time.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I am a relational psychodynamic psychotherapist. It is important to me to understand what is important to you, and work together towards resolving symptoms and challenges like anxiety, depression, self-defeating behaviors, parenting and family challenges, relationships issues, navigating life transitions, post-traumatic stress.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

We will begin to explore what your initial goals are for psychotherapy and decide together what is important to focus on first. The first session is my opportunity to begin to understand you and learn about your life. We will also take some time for you to ask any questions you may have about psychotherapy. *I offer a free 15 min phone consultation before confirming appointments.

I was always very concerned about visiting a therapist due to all the stigmas tied to it, especially coming from a Spanish home. Ruth made me feel comfortable speaking with her. Ruth is both VERY professional and compassionate. Ruth allows you to navigate your feelings and emotions. She helped me out of depression and worked on years of trauma. I would recommend Ruth not just because she is phenomenal; but because she truly LOVES what she does, and you can see that in the effort she puts into helping me get better. THANK YOU RUTH!
Ruth is the kind of person you hope to have as a friend. She is warm and welcoming and had been working with me for years. She is also easy to talk to and very knowledgeable. Ruth will tailor your sessions to fit your needs and will make your life easier by the day.
