Getting to know Ruthie Brooks
I specialize in OCD and use Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), the most effective, evidence-based treatment for OCD. Beyond our sessions, you'll have access to ongoing support when you need it most, including direct messaging, support groups, and real-time help when OCD symptoms spike
I've seen a loved one struggle with OCD. He found treatment with a therapist who specializes in ERP, and it really changed his life. As an OCD therapist, I take a holistic approach: You are not your OCD. Your OCD is one part of your mental health. I’ll help you incorporate self-compassion and let go of any shame, judgment, and guilt. This is a nonjudgmental space; you can be transparent with me. In addition to OCD, I focus on treating anxiety, trauma, grief, depression, and stress management.
My personal connection to OCD and mental health
I have a close family member—more like a sibling to me—who has OCD. Growing up, we didn't know that's what it was. We just saw him withdraw more and more from the family. When he got diagnosed in college and was referred to an ERP specialist, it changed his life. I was already on the path to becoming a therapist, but seeing that fueled my desire even more.
What I want to help you see in yourself
That you can do something about this. I love seeing people move from feeling stuck to realizing that. They go from feeling weighed down by OCD to gaining momentum and realizing they have power over it. I'm just the co-pilot in that journey, but seeing them take back their lives is incredible.
The most rewarding part of treating OCD
Seeing people reclaim what OCD has taken from them—that's everything. Maybe they've been able to leave home again, have dinner with their family, use a knife and fork without fear, or hold their child for the first time in years.
What should a new client know about working with you?
How I create a safe, supportive environment in therapy
Some of the things people share are really, really hard for them to say out loud. I make sure to create a space where there's no judgment. And with that, I also give you time—sometimes it takes time before you feel ready to be fully transparent. But I also try to instill hope. I want you to know that there is something we can do to help you get better and stay better.
