Getting to know Samantha Meltsner

Working in the mental health field, I truly believe everyone has the capacity for growth and resilience. My focus is on creating a warm, supportive space where you feel genuinely heard, understood, and supported. I have a passion for working with adolescents and young adults struggling with anxiety, depression, a lack of support system, interpersonal conflict or those who feel "stuck". Together, we work toward building self-compassion, deeper insight, and the confidence to navigate life's challenges. I believe the therapeutic relationship is at the forefront of all clinical work and strongly encourage collaboration and openness in my sessions. I take a humanistic approach with all my sessions because I believe that growth begins with conversation, understanding and human connection.

What should a new client know about working with you?

‍Every person's journey is different, so I tailor my approach to what fits best for every person. I invite clients to explore challenging thought processes and uncomfortable emotions in sessions together. I integrate evidence-based practices like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectal Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Motivational Interviewing. I believe in a balance of drawing from evidence based practices and person-centered techniques to foster a collaborative yet open environment.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Once the intake process is complete I take a very conversational approach to my sessions. I my clients to feel a safe, non-judgemental, open environment where we can unpack uncomfortable or distressing thoughts. I encourage my clients to feel comfortable taking the lead and taking autonomy over their session by asking questions, interrupting me when needed, and treatment goal collaboration. While a diagnosis is important I also emphasize focusing on symptoms and the impact of your current functioning on daily emotional health. Exploring self-care activities/routines and implementing mindfulness based coping skills is core to my sessions.
