Getting to know samm panos

My father took us to Mexico and supplied families with food, shelter, and clothing, started a medical clinic, and provided an ambulance. He was a natural social worker, and I caught the bug. I enjoy hearing people’s stories and working with them to use their strengths to make their lives better.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I ask the client how I can help and how they will know when they no longer need counseling. What will be in their life and what will they be doing? I use Cognitive Behavioral (CBT), Rotarian, motivational, strengths-based, short-term, and family systems.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

I like to hear what the client’s strengths are and build on those to help them look at possible solutions. I want the client to feel supported and have a relaxed therapeutic relationship. I have worked with cancer patients, Alzheimer’s, anxiety, and dryness. I have worked with substance abuse, domestic violence, and adolescents. I have worked with postpartum, epilepsy, grief, work-related stress, and divorce. I have worked with LGBTQIA and transgender. I have done work with an inner child too.
