I believe therapy can be a healing space to expand your relationship with yourself and develop a healthy sense of discernment. As a therapist, I make space for us to witness and understand multiple facets of your being. These include emotions, thoughts, and behaviors; your past, present and future selves; mind, body and soul. I respect that you are the only one who occupies your existence, and welcome your inner wisdom into our work. I work to cultivate a therapeutic space that is as fun and empowering as it is insightful and emotionally cathartic. I use a blend of somatic, emotional, cognitive and expressive arts methods to understand your experiences and facilitate psychological healing. I hold an MA in Mental Health Counseling from NYU, with a dual degree in LGBTQ* affirming therapy. I am also trained in Expressive Arts-Based Therapy through a joint programme facilitated by Fortis Hospital in New Delhi and UNESCO CID (International Dance Council). I am a queer Indian woman who also lives with chronic pain; living in such a body has contributed to my keen sense of humor as well as humble empathy. New York City is the fourth city in the third country I now call home. I am intentional about this mix of identities and experiences informing my therapeutic philosophies. When I’m not working, you’ll find me curled up with a book, dancing to a wide range of music, painting and collaging or being a plant out in the wild, delighting in Mother Nature.

I can only wish that I could continue with Sanchana, but due to an insurance snafu, that opportunity is no longer available. I have done limited therapy in the past because I could not get myself to do so for the longest time. She really helped me breakdown very difficult experiences that had plagued and confused me for the longest time. I would highly recommend her to friends and family.

I came across Sanchana at Citron Hennesey when I was looking to start therapy for the first time in my life. I was drawn to her art background and wanted someone who could relate to a 1st generation immigrant's pov. Sanchana creates a warm and curious environment that allows me to share my vulnerable self and way of thinking. She's not limited to talk therapy, sometimes we stretch, breathe, and draw to bring in all senses. I look forward to our sessions and always leave feeling like I learned something new about myself.
I began my journey with Sanchana back in January 2022 and have been seeing her since! I've been seeing Sanchana for almost three years :) I got very lucky and clicked with my very first therapist. While I still believe she knows me better than I know myself, she is definitely helping me to bridge that gap more and more every session as I get to know myself better. Before her, I didn't realize how shallow my breathing was and how often I was holding my breath. I've learned to listen to my body, give it what it needs and do so without needing to label what's going on or ask why. I highly recommend her. She truly offers an authentic safe space and listens with not only her ears but with her whole heart. The only person judging me in that room is me and she's helped me to give myself more grace. Her art therapy exercises have assisted in me expressing the thoughts and feelings I can't yet put into words. I leave every session so thankful that I gave myself the gift of therapy.
I have been working with Sanchana for three years and simply put, she has changed my life and my relationship to my mental health. She creates the safest of spaces (even virtually), and I owe much of my healing to her practice. If you are looking for an art therapist or someone who will not only let you but encourage you to stretch at the start of each session, I highly recommend working with her.
