Getting to know Sandy Flores

Through a therapeutic journey, I am devoted to creating an authentic, safe space where we can work collaboratively as you strive to reach personal goals, optimum well-being, and a fulfilling lifestyle. As a therapist, I aim to work with you in a supportive and validating manner that builds empowerment, resilience, and growth while advocating a positive outlook with every step of progress made. I am passionate about working with young adults and adults who are navigating trauma, life transitions, grief, stress, self-esteem, anxiety, and depression—providing a safe space to genuinely connect and empathize while helping clients develop skills to strengthen their capabilities. I use therapeutic approaches that best fit the client’s journey in counseling, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Person-Centered, and Psychodynamic models. I value clients working at their own pace and focus on building tools that help them reach their full, well-rounded potential. I hold a Master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling from Baruch College, which has equipped me with the knowledge and skills to support clients effectively throughout their healing and growth.

What should a new client know about working with you?

When working with me, clients should know I take into full consideration of what pace works best for them. It is essential that what is discussed and worked on in therapy is when a client is ready to do so. While there may be hesitations, paying attention to a client’s pace will impact the flow of progress and how we can continue to navigate towards achieving the client’s goals. Clients should know that as a therapist I will be here to help gain new insights and work through barriers supporting the client’s growth while ensuring that they are comfortable with the process. My approach to therapy is tailored to meet the client’s needs. My therapeutic approaches stem from CBT, DBT, Person-Centered, and Psychodynamic models, all while creating a non-judgmental safe space for clients to feel supported. In an effort to work towards the client’s goals, I take a collaborative approach when working with clients to gain encouragement, empowerment and opportunities for reflection.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

In the first session I will complete an intake assessment to gather as much information to better assess and get to know you, your history, and what concerns have brought you to therapy and therefore set up goals. The following sessions, we will engage in talk therapy while pulling from various modalities to help you achieve your goals. Our sessions are 45 min in length on a weekly basis. Please allow 15 minutes before the session to do the intake paperwork. I PROVIDE PSYCHOTHERAPY SERVICES ONLY; PLEASE NOTE I DON’T PROVIDE MEDICATION MANAGEMENT SERVICES.
