Getting to know Dr. Sarah Finkelstein

I am a Clinical Psychology Postdoctoral Therapist at Bryant West Psychology, where I see individuals and couples both in person and online throughout New York State. I am trained and experienced in helping people who are facing anxiety, depression, and the aftermath of trauma, both from childhood and later in life. In my work, I often address difficulties in relationships, loneliness, self-doubt, and the challenges of major life transitions. I work with people of diverse racial, cultural, religious, sexual, and gender identities, and am deeply aware that we each inhabit and express these identities in uniquely personal ways. My goal in therapy is to create a collaborative and safe environment where we can address whatever is on your mind. Regardless of the issue, I am here to provide support while also challenging you to shift patterns that no longer serve you. I approach therapy primarily from a relational psychodynamic framework which recognizes that many of our struggles are rooted in our earliest and most vital attachments. These formative relationships can nurture and sustain us, while also contributing to enduring issues that may hold us back or cause us pain throughout our adult lives. Although these dynamics typically operate outside of our awareness, if we attend to them and heal old wounds, we can expand our capacity to make freer and more intentional choices in the present.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I received my doctorate in clinical psychology from Long Island University–Post and trained in a range of clinical settings. At Creedmoor Psychiatric Center, I worked with individuals facing serious mental health concerns in an inpatient setting, at Achieve Behavioral Health I provided outpatient psychotherapy for individuals primarily within the Orthodox and ultra-Orthodox Jewish community, and at the SUNY Old Westbury Counseling Center, I served a diverse community of university students who were navigating the challenges of early adulthood. In my current role at Bryant West Psychology, it would be a privilege to support you as you take steps toward healing, personal understanding, and growth.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

I believe that a strong therapeutic relationship is at the heart of the therapeutic process and my priority is finding what works best for you. At times, I integrate Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and trauma-focused treatments, depending on what you most need as our work evolves. Together, we can consider what feels troubling or limiting in your life, deepen your self-understanding, and find a way forward that aligns with your values and goals.

Don’t see your insurance?

It’s common for mental health providers to be out-of-network. Many insurance plans offer out-of-network coverage, so you may get partially reimbursed. Learn more

Out-of-pocket fees and assistance
Ongoing session: $160-350 for 50 minutes
  • Sliding scale: Offers lower out-of-pocket fees on an individual basis, typically based on your ability to pay
  • Files your insurance claim: You pay the session fee upfront and the provider files the claim for you, so you can get reimbursed directly without worrying about the paperwork
  • Charges post-reimbursement amount: This provider will only charge you for the amount you pay after you get reimbursed from your insurance plan, so you don’t need to pay the session fee upfront

More information on payments and coverage

Bryant West Psychology works with most insurance plans (whether in-network or out-of-network) to make the financials easy, hassle-free, and paper-work-free for you. We can bill your insurance for you, and you can pay us any deductibles and co-pays by credit card or through Zelle, as well as the old-fashioned ways, such as check or cash. In-Network: Our clinicians are providers in the following networks: Aetna and its affiliated insurances (Allied Benefit Systems - Aetna, Christian Brothers Services - Aetna, Health Scope - Aetna, Meritain, Nippon, Trustmark ) and student health insurance at NYU, Columbia, New School, and Fordham. Your in-network insurance company sets our fees, co-pays, and deductibles, making our service more affordable. We will discuss this with you. Out-of-Network: We bill all insurance companies, such as United Health Care, Oxford, Cigna, Blue Cross/Shield, and Beacon (to name a few). Depending on your plan, your insurance may pay up to 80% of our fee (and sometimes more). We will do our best to work with you to make payment arrangements that won't break the bank—that is, your bank.
