Life can be challenging in general, but during these times of COVID-19 we are finding that life is throwing us more curveballs than usual. In counseling, my objective is to provide support, encouragement, and guidance to address life's challenges. Overall, the ultimate goal is for you to be energized and mobilized to experience a happier and more fulfilling life. In 2003, I graduated with a Master's in Counseling Psychology from Virginia Commonwealth University with a multi-disciplinary subspecialty in Developmental Disabilities through the VA-LEND Program. I have been a Licensed Professional Counselor since 2009. I am also a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional (CCTP). I have experience working with a wide range of clients in refugee and immigrant foster care (English and Spanish-speaking), a rural Community Services Board (CSB), a private counseling agency, a juvenile correctional facility, and in an outpatient hospital setting. The counseling style I utilize is motivational with evidence-based DBT and CBT methods. I utilize a strengths-based approach, focusing on helping the individual find a more balanced, peaceful, happy, and healthy lifestyle. I have over 25 years providing counseling to individuals with PTSD, trauma disorders, adjustment disorders, attachment disorders, anxiety, depression, ADHD, learning disorders, and developmental disabilities (with specific training in Autism Spectrum Disorder). I also have a passion for counseling refugees and immigrants from countries all over the world and have a depth of experience working in this area. I also have experience providing counseling for Spanish-speaking clients. For those who are interested in a Christian approach, I have been trained in a biblically-based systems theory counseling approach.
