Psychotherapist
71 Park Ave, Unit 1D, New York, NY
I’m a psychotherapist with over 15 years of experience and extensive post-graduate training. I offer individual therapy, couples counseling, and psychoanalysis. I welcome the opportunity to help you work on the issues that bring you to therapy. People who work with me are often seeking help for depression, anxiety, sexuality/intimacy issues, LGBTQ issues, relationship problems, and adjusting to new challenges. My approach is empathic and interactive. In sessions, we focus on the immediate problems that trouble you as well as opportunities for long-term growth. I earned a PhD at the CUNY Graduate Center and an MSW from Columbia University. I completed postgraduate clinical training at the Psychoanalytic Training Institute of the Contemporary Freudian Society. Besides private practice, I’ve worked as a therapist at the Department of Veterans Affairs, the Washington Square Institute, and Montefiore Medical Center.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Our work begins during the first meeting. It is your opportunity to tell me about yourself and what’s troubling you. I will listen and ask questions in order to begin to understand you and your problems. During this initial visit and in the sessions that follow, you will get a sense of my therapy style and I will offer you ideas on how we might think about your problems and work on them together in an ongoing therapy. While every person - and every therapy - is different, on the whole I tend to work with clients in ongoing therapy at a frequency of at least one session per week.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

I understand therapy to be a cooperative effort in which we work together to help you better engage with your mind, your environment, and your relationships. As your therapist, my job is to help you understand how your mind works. I aim to help you achieve not just relief from the pain the brings you to therapy, but also lasting, lifelong growth. Throughout our work together, I strive to offer help that resonates with your individual needs and preferences.
