Getting to know Dr. Serena Bonomo

Hi! My name is Serena. Broadly, the folks that I typically see present with mood, anxiety, and trauma-related disorders, and who find themselves overwhelmed by their current emotional state. What should a new client know about working with you?

I received my Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Long Island University–Brooklyn and trained in several sites across New York City treating patients aged 6 to 93. Some of the sites I have trained in include Woodhull Hospital, a public, city hospital in Bushwick, and Mount Sinai Beth Israel where I provided inpatient and outpatient treatment to patients across the lifespan. I am excited to be putting the finishing touches on my training at Bryant West Psychology, where I know I will receive excellent training, prior to being able to practice independently in New York State.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

When working together, I take a curious and collaborative approach to understanding the what may underlie your presenting concerns, exploring the influence of early and current experiences on emotions, beliefs, and behaviors. I prioritize creating a comfortable, nonjudgmental space for where you can feel safe and comfortable to open up, as I believe this is crucial for change and insight to emerge and for our work to deepen. You are the expert on you - so I listen closely to both what you say and I am open to your feedback on our process. I am here to both support and challenge you when deemed fit based on your values, as I have come to know them, as well as your goals for treatment. I primarily work from a psychodynamic perspective and integrate cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and humanistic principles for a holistic and individualized approach - we are all so much the same, yet each of us, and each couple, is quite different.

Ongoing session: $185-350 for 55 minutes
  • Sliding scale: Offers lower out-of-pocket fees on an individual basis, typically based on your ability to pay
  • Files your insurance claim: You pay the session fee upfront and the provider files the claim for you, so you can get reimbursed directly without worrying about the paperwork
  • Charges post-reimbursement amount: This provider will only charge you for the amount you pay after you get reimbursed from your insurance plan, so you don’t need to pay the session fee upfront

More information on payments and coverage

Bryant West Psychology works with most insurance plans (whether in-network or out-of-network) to make the financials easy, hassle-free, and paper-work-free for you. We can bill your insurance for you, and you can pay us any deductibles and co-pays by credit card or through Zelle, as well as the old-fashioned ways, such as check or cash. In-Network: Our clinicians are providers in the following networks: Aetna and its affiliated insurers (Allied Benefit Systems - Aetna, Christian Brothers Services - Aetna, HealthScope - Aetna, Meritain, Nippon, Trustmark ) and student health insurance at NYU, Columbia, New School, Fordham. Your insurance company sets our fees, co-pays, and deductibles, making our services more affordable. We will discuss this with you. Out-of-Network: We bill all insurance companies, such as United Health Care, Oxford, Cigna, Blue Cross/Shield, and Beacon (to name a few). Depending on your plan, your insurance may pay up to 80% of our fees (and sometimes more). We will do our best to work with you to make payment arrangements that won't break the bank—that is, your bank.
