Welcome! I’m Shakara Nixon (Thomas), LCSW, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with over nine years of experience supporting individuals and families on their mental health journeys. I hold a Bachelor of Science in Clinical Psychology from Saint Augustine’s University (2013) and a Master of Social Work from Norfolk State University (2019). My passion for mental health stems from a deep commitment to helping people navigate life’s challenges—whether that involves managing anxiety, depression, trauma, or other difficult experiences. My goal is to provide a safe, compassionate space where you can begin healing, rediscover your strengths, and work toward lasting peace. Throughout my career, I’ve developed extensive experience working with clients facing depression, anxiety, ADHD, co-occurring disorders, learning disabilities, trauma, and crisis situations. My approach is nonjudgmental, client-centered, and empowering, focusing on helping you build the tools and confidence to move forward. In our sessions, I primarily use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Talk Therapy, Motivational Interviewing along with other evidence-based modalities, tailored to your unique needs. I aim to ensure you feel heard, understood, and supported every step of the way. Together, we’ll address a variety of concerns, including trauma, phobias, multicultural or diversity-related challenges, life transitions, perinatal and postpartum support, PTSD, relationship and family issues, grief and loss, anger management, adolescent and teen behavioral health, bipolar disorder, and more. If you’re ready to take the next step toward healing and personal growth, I would be honored to walk alongside you. Let’s work together to create a brighter, more peaceful future—one step at a time.
