I am Dr. Shyla Smith, Licensed Mental Health Counselor, providing comprehensive Telehealth services to people residing in the states of Washington and Florida. I am a Los Angeles native and earned my BA in Psychology from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), as well as my MA and PsyD degrees in Clinical Psychology from Azusa Pacific University. I have had the opportunity to live in Washington State and New York City during my career, gaining a wealth of knowledge working in community mental health settings. When I am not working, I spend time with my family, friends, and my Shih-poo fur baby. I enjoy collaborating with others and interacting with the world around me. Some of my passions include reducing stigma, advocating for and empowering clients, and encouraging self-discovery and authenticity.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Iv'e trained as a generalist practitioner seeing adult and older adult clients of various diagnosis. Im an integrative therapist who utilizes various therapeutic modalities for my each of my clients unique needs. My most commonly used modalities include, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Trauma Informed Care, Emotion Focused Therapy (EFT), Solution Focused Therapy, Mindfulness Based Practices, Existential techniques, Multicultural Informed Care, Liberation techniques, Interpersonal, and Psychodynamic Therapy.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

I'm delighted to become a member of your network of support systems and your accountability partner. If we both feel that we can work together, we will schedule your sessions and we will meet at the same time each week for about 45mins.
