“My sessions with Socrates have always been really helpful. His calm, caring and professional demeanor allows me to feel completely safe to explore even the most complex issues. His professional experience and his experience as a person in general gives me confidence to discuss all aspects of my everyday personal life, my mental health, as well as spiritual questions relating to my Buddhist meditation practice in depth and detail. Socrates is always equally present with whatever I bring to the table in each session and guides me ever so gently into deeper understanding, experience and presence with my own processes. I would highly recommend working with Socrates to anyone. ”

Getting to know Socrates Mitsos

Our work together is a unique opportunity—to be present, to contemplate, to confront, and to find solutions to everyday personal challenges and the deeper ones underlying them. It is a space of presence and participation. I employ an empirically based therapeutic approach grounded in a cognitive-behavioral framework (REBT, CBT, and ACT). My approach draws from cognitive neuroscience, mindfulness, and compassion, and is trauma-informed. I aim to bring clarity to whatever you are facing. I work with anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, medical adversity, major life transitions, questions of identity, and deep existential concerns. Together, we will cultivate evidence-informed skills and practices that you will carry with you as the foundation for continued flourishing. I hold an MDiv from Harvard University, where I spent three years studying spiritual care counseling and philosophy of religion. My thesis and fieldwork focused on the medical humanities of healing—where history, science, and human experience meet. I worked at Harvard’s oncology research hospital, where, in a counseling capacity, I sat with remarkable individuals who were confronted with serious medical issues, psychological distress, and profound ultimate concerns. Prior to Harvard, I received my MA in Mental Health Counseling and Wellness and a BA in Psychology (Honors) from New York University. Originally from New York, I grew up in an immigrant household, living with multiple cultural identities. I have lived in London, Greece, and spent considerable time in India, where I studied mindfulness extensively. I have enjoyed long hiking journeys, including the Camino de Santiago, the E4 path from Northern Greece to its Southern tip, and the Himalayan foothills of Northern India. I love art and since my youth have been an avid visitor and dreamer at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Reading has been my friend, and the ideas and journeys books have transmitted have been my allies throughout my life.

Very kind & compassionate person. I felt he could really help me. Highly recommend.
Amazing! Socrates changes my life for the better. I will always be grateful.

Socrates is a particularly gentle therapist with wonderful presence. He has a unique ability to see through doubts and concerns to what really matters, and I find this very affirming. He is kind and warm and shows immense care.
I immediately felt comfortable talking with Socrates and found my sessions very beneficial. It was like sitting down with a friend and having a coffee, one that leads into the heart of things. It was also an opportunity to learn skills that I took into my art practice. Especially concerning anxiety.
Working with Socrates has been a true blessing. He is a rare kind of psychotherapist: deeply knowledgeable, profoundly grounded, and genuinely human. His understanding of Buddhism and long-standing mindfulness practice are not just theoretical, they are clearly lived, embodied, and present in the way he meets people. He also brings a rich understanding of the creative soul, which gives his work a rare depth, subtlety, and openness. Socrates has a remarkable mind: precise, curious, thorough, and deeply insightful. Yet, to me, what stands out most has been his humanity. His work is compassionate without being sentimental, intelligent without being cold, and grounded without ever feeling rigid. I would highly recommend him to anyone looking for a therapist with real depth, integrity, and heart.
I felt very safe and socrates was easy to talk to. He challenged my thinking while offering support when I wasn't sure what was next.
Time with Socrates was deeply supportive. I have immense gratitude for his insight, wisdom and guidance. He holds a practice that is rare…working beyond any form of therapy I have experienced before. I will definitely be returning to him for further sessions.
