My name is Sofia Israel Ancona. I am fluent in both English and Spanish and I identify as Latina/Hispanic. Then, I obtained my Masters of Science in Clinical Social Work at Columbia University in 2022 in which I received extensive training in the Dialectical Behavior Therapy Training Program & Lab. I have experience providing individual, skills groups for adults and adolescents, family, and couples’ therapy. I look forward in getting to know you.

What should a new client know about working with you?

My goal is to provide you with a safe space to explore who you are by understanding the different parts (e.g., culture, religion, gender, upbringing) to help with the stress and burdens you might be experiencing. Together, we'll compassionately look into how past patterns might be interfering with your current relationships and life. I am bilingual in both Spanish and English and identify as Hispanic/Latina. I obtained my Masters of Science in Clinical Social Work at Columbia University in 2022, where I was a fellow in the Dialectical Behavior Therapy Program and received in-depth training to work with both adolescents and adults at Columbia Irving Medical Center. I have experience in providing individual, family and couples' therapy. I appreciate your courage in seeking the support you deserve. Please, do not hesitate. Looking forward to connecting!

What is your typical process for working with clients?

I work with individuals who are experiencing difficulty in their day-to-day life and with their relationships. We go at your pace and I embrace teamwork in the therapeutic process. I will ask questions along the way which will help us explore how your childhood impacts you today while simultaneously, finding coping strategies for you to implement when you find yourself in moments of tremendous distress.
