“The attentiveness and inquisitive energy that Sonia possesses makes her a true thought partner that both challenges and affirms the work I'm doing. “Sonia is my first therapist, we have had sessions together for around a year now, and I would wholeheartedly recommend her to anybody. Sonia is the best! She is super easy to talk to and open up with, and I am often left with a lot to think about as I go through the week. Conversations we’ve had have already helped me move past a lot of personal baggage, and I truly look forward to continuing to grow and learn new things from our reflections. ”

Getting to know Sonia Martin

I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with a Master's in Social Work from Hunter College, City University of New York, and have been working in the field for 10 years. I graduated with a focus on clinical practice with individuals and families. Over the years, I have served a wide range of clientele, from adolescents to adults. I specialize in working with those who suffer from trauma, generalized anxiety, depression, personality disorders, eating disorders, substance use, and addiction issues. As a POC therapist, I am also familiar with issues of race and how they can impact one's mental health. I am here to support you as you begin your therapeutic journey. Please reach out if you are interested in getting started. My main focus in modalities includes cognitive behavioral therapy, narrative therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy, solution-focused therapy, and motivational interviewing. I am LGBTQIA+ affirming and trauma-informed, with a commitment to serving POC clients.

What should a new client know about working with you?

My approach is person centered and non-judgmental, I believe that a collaborative approach to treatment is paramount. I support my clients in gaining insight to the root of their issues in order to come up with productive strategies to move forward and break out of unhealthy behavior patterns. My belief is in holistic healing and incorporate this regularly.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Generally I like to offer a free 15 minute consultation to see if we will be a good fit. Subsequent sessions are 45 minutes and will include a combination of modalities, primarily cognitive behavioral therapy. I believe therapy to be an interactive process and encourage feedback as you are comfortable.
