“My first session was great. She set clear expectations of what to expect and look forward to within our sessions and she helped me ease the stress of what my first call should be like. She asked questions to get to know me and understand my personal needs for therapy which I appreciated.”

Getting to know Stephanie Astudillo

I am an empathetic bilingual licensed mental health counselor with over six years of experience in the field. I hold a Master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling from Long Island University. I have worked with a variety of issues, including depression, anxiety, substance and alcohol abuse, trauma, life transitions, culture-related challenges, and interpersonal relationship concerns. Fluent in both English and Spanish, I am also a child of immigrant parents, which allows me to offer a compassionate and understanding approach to navigating society as an ethnic minority.

What should a new client know about working with you?

My clients should know that I take the time to really listen and understand someone's point of view alongside providing feedback. I use a combination of modalities and techniques when working with clients, however I tend to focus more on a person centered and strengths-based approach. I am also known to assign homework. Clients have shared that this has helped with putting into practice day by day what we are working on during our sessions. Clients can expect to learn new strategies to cope with everyday issues. I want my clients to leave the session feeling seen and heard in a safe space.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

In the first session I will complete an intake assessment to gather as much information to better assess and get to know you, your history, and what concerns have brought you to therapy and therefore set up goals. The following sessions, we will engage in talk therapy while pulling from various modalities to help you achieve your goals. Our sessions are 45 min in length on a weekly basis. Please allow 15 minutes before the session to do the intake paperwork. I PROVIDE PSYCHOTHERAPY SERVICES ONLY; PLEASE NOTE I DON’T PROVIDE MEDICATION MANAGEMENT SERVICES.
