Getting to know Susan Amory

Hello! I'm Susan, a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) with a passion for helping individuals navigate life's challenges. Since 2014, I've been dedicated to supporting clients through their mental health journeys. I hold a Bachelor of Science in Social Work from Radford University, a Master of Arts in Education from Norfolk State University, and a Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Adams State University. Before transitioning to clinical counseling, I spent 21 years as a high school teacher, working closely with students with special needs. Currently, I work full-time for Veterans Affairs and part-time for SonderMind. My extensive training includes certifications in Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) and training in Integrative Behavioral Couples Therapy (IBCT) and Cognitive Behavioral Conjoint Therapy for PTSD (CBCT-P). I specialize in supporting adolescent and adult clients facing a variety of issues, including life transitions, career challenges, self-esteem, managing stress, identity exploration, depression, and anxiety. In my practice, I utilize person-centered, cognitive-behavioral, and strength-based approaches, with a strong emphasis on trauma-informed care. I believe that counseling should be a collaborative process where you are the expert on your own life. My goal is to meet you where you are and tailor treatment to fit your unique needs. I pride myself on being warm, direct, non-judgmental, and an empathic listener. I strive to be a therapist you can relate to—I'm as real as it gets! Continuing your personal work is a wonderful gift to yourself. If you're ready to take the next step, I'm here to support you on your journey. Godspeed.
