Getting to know Susan Hein

As a psychodynamically oriented psychotherapist, in clinical practice 40+ years, I work with adult individuals and couples — from very young to the elderly — with issues of depression, anxiety, relationship and social life problems, health and aging. Working with couples experiencing marital & partnership conflicts and/or parenting issues has been very rewarding. My clinical practice has included people from varying backgrounds and fields — including the arts and education— some in professional transition, or returning to school— as well as those who are engaged at being stay-at-home mothers or fathers. I offer therapy in an emotionally safe environment, working collaboratively towards increased understanding and resolution of conflicts within awareness — as well as those less conscious — that interfere with happiness. My approach is underscored with respect, recognition, and appreciation of the duality inherent in the therapist-client relationship. Besides being a psychotherapist, I founded and ran a creative arts preschool and afterschool program, taught in NYC public schools and currently teach at college level. This, plus being a parent and grandparent enhances my psychotherapeutic skills, as I bring a wide breadth of understanding to the myriad of conflicts and difficulties encountered in life.
