Suzanne Fauria, LCSW

Psychotherapist
NJ
As a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) serving adults in New York and New Jersey, I guide people through the transformative journey of self-(re)discovery. I believe that healing is a process of returning to yourself—to the warm, centered, and confident you before life happened. I hold a Master’s in Social Work from the Silver School of Social Work and a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Oregon. My therapeutic approach integrates Internal Family Systems (IFS) and EMDR to address trauma, anxiety, and other emotional and relational challenges. I am particularly passionate about supporting adult clients impacted by childhood trauma, folks exploring their identity and sense of self, and those navigating challenging relationship dynamics. Areas we may work on include deepening your self-awareness, regulating emotions, tuning into your body’s wisdom, healing traumatic memories, exploring how your past impacts your present, understanding your relationship dynamics, communication skills, boundary-setting, and feeling more anchored in the here and now. My clients would likely say that I am authentic and have a complexity.

What should a new client know about working with you?

You should know that I see you as the healer and that it is my job to help you rediscover your unique healing gifts. I do this in a fluid way, calling on many different modalities and interventions, to help guide you back to your true essence. My ultimate goal is for you to feel like the most you and to be able to turn inward for wisdom and guidance. Therapy is a sacred space and the therapeutic relationship is integral to the healing process. You can practice being in a safe relationship -- set boundaries, advocate for your needs, embrace your vulnerability -- all while being supported and honored. Each therapeutic relationship is unique and centered on what makes you feel safe. You can expect a warm, non-judgmental, and collaborative environment and I will also push you at times to lean into the feeling or challenge your way of thinking.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

You can expect us to co-create this process, as there is no one-size-fits-all to therapy. Together, we will set short and long term goals and we will meet them by using traditional talk therapy, Internal Family Systems (IFS) and/or EMDR. IFS is a transformative model where we will explore various parts of you, The Advocate or The Performer for example, with the goal of creating internal harmony so no part of you is too extreme or too hidden. This work can be done in a meditative way, by tuning into sensations in your body, by artistic expression or more traditional talk therapy. IFS is transformational because you're healing aspects of yourself in real time, not just talking about healing. EMDR is another therapy tool that is available to you. This includes healing traumatic memories by creating new and hopeful neural pathways. I will ask you to tune into your body's wisdom and use your breath as an anchor, as your body possess endless healing tools. Some moments in therapy will be tearful and others may feel lighthearted and playful. I go where you go, with compassion, authenticity and curiosity.
