Psychotherapist
600 3rd Ave, Fl 2, New York, NY
Hi, I'm Syeda, a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) who works with adults and adolescents navigating depression, stress, women's issues, and cultural issues, including racial trauma. Whether you're moving through a difficult season or seeking space to better understand yourself, my approach is warm, friendly, and collaborative. It is of utmost importance to me to create a safe space where you can be vulnerable and feel respected. I primarily work from a person-centered approach and draw from modalities such as CBT, DBT, mindfulness-based therapy, and others, tailoring each to your needs. Together we work to ease symptoms like changes in mood, sleep, and eating, challenge unhelpful thoughts and behaviors, and, over time, explore deeper patterns for lasting personal growth. I hold a Master's degree from Teachers College, Columbia University, and bring a compassionate, client-centered perspective to every session. Therapy is a space for healing, insight, and growth. If you're ready to take that first step, I'd love to connect and work together.

What should a new client know about working with you?

The most important thing to know is that my approach is warm, friendly, and collaborative. It is of utmost importance to me that you have a safe space to be vulnerable and feel respected, so we move at a pace that feels right for you rather than one I set in advance. I work primarily from a person-centered perspective, which means you are the expert on your own life and I am here to help you make sense of it, not to hand you a set of answers. Many of the adolescents and adults I see come in carrying depression, stress, women's issues, or the weight of cultural and racial experiences that have not always been understood by others, and I want this to be a place where those parts of your story are welcomed. You do not need to arrive with the right words or a clear explanation of what is wrong. We can start wherever you are.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

We begin with an initial session focused on getting to know you, what brought you in, and what you hope will feel different. From there, we set goals collaboratively so the work reflects your priorities. Early on, I often draw from CBT, DBT, and mindfulness-based approaches to help ease presenting symptoms such as changes in mood, sleep, or eating patterns, and to identify and challenge unhelpful thoughts and behaviors. As we build trust and you have more stability day to day, we can move deeper. Using psychodynamic theory, we explore unconscious patterns, early life experiences, and what surfaces in our own therapeutic relationship, with the goal of deeper, long-term personal growth. Throughout, we check in regularly about what is helping and what is not, and I adjust my approach based on what you tell me.
