Getting to know Taima Elliott

I’m a Brooklyn native and a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW). As a Black queer woman, I recognize the importance of representation, understanding lived experiences, and acknowledging how systemic inequities can affect the clients I serve. This is particularly important within our Black communities, where many individuals are navigating trauma and systemic barriers that have historically contributed to emotional and mental health challenges. At TaimaCounsels, I ensure that my assessments, case plans, and interventions are culturally responsive, strengths-based, trauma-informed, and individualized to meet the needs of each client I work with. I strive to ensure that my work with each client captures their cultural identity, natural support systems, community resources, and preferences, while developing objectives and treatment goals collaboratively. I am driven to create a safe and nurturing space for individuals to navigate their emotions, develop heightened self-awareness, and find new meaning in challenging experiences. I work alongside each client to help them accomplish their desired changes and goals. I believe that each client is the expert on their own story, and I am dedicated to empowering my clients through an integrative approach to therapy that includes acceptance, guidance, and a little humor. I am a Certified Cognitive Behavioral Therapist (C-CBT), a Certified Grief Counselor (CAGCS), and an Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) trainee currently completing my EMDR certification. My practice is primarily grounded in relational, attachment-based, and psychodynamic approaches. I specialize in anxiety, depression, childhood trauma, PTSD, and complex grief. I am here to walk alongside each of my clients, offering support, understanding, and a genuine commitment to your well-being.

What should a new client know about working with you?

At Taima M. Elliott Counseling Service, I recognize the importance of a supportive and structured approach to counseling. Our individual and family sessions are designed to last between 45 to 90 minutes, depending on presenting challenges and treatment modality. In the first session, we will conduct a thorough biopsychosocial assessment that play a crucial role in identifying your unique goals and objectives related to the challenges you face. This assessment not only sheds light on how your early experiences and current circumstances impact you now but also fosters a collaborative understanding between you and I around desired changes. Moving forward, each session will be tailored to guide you closer to your goals through CBT or EMDR services.
