Getting to know Teresa Maguire
My name is Teresa Maguire, and I have been a psychotherapist (LCSW-R) for 25 years. I earned my Master's in Social Work from Adelphi University in Garden City. I work mostly with adults experiencing numerous life difficulties.
My approach
I work largely from a psychodynamic and relational model, utilizing the therapeutic relationship as a vehicle for insight and change. The client sets the pace of the work, and I meet them where they are. Clients should feel comfortable bringing their true selves to sessions without fearing judgment. All feelings are welcome and will be examined and explored together.
My focus
I work mostly with adults dealing with issues such as depression, anxiety, trauma, life transitions, gender identity concerns, relationship problems, and LGBTQ issues.
My communication style
I work from a relational approach, meaning the therapeutic relationship is central to the work. I meet clients where they are and work with them at their own pace. The client must feel safe and be able to trust in order to do the work of therapy. I strive to create a safe and caring environment where clients can feel heard and validated.
My journey to therapy
Being a therapist is such rewarding work. Helping people get to know and understand themselves and create the lives they want is my passion. I enjoy providing clients with unconditional acceptance and compassion that they can internalize to accept themselves and live a more authentic life fully.

I work collaboratively with clients to set goals that are obtainable based on their wants, needs, and life experiences.
