Getting to know Tianyi Guan

I work with individual adults and couples navigating anxiety, perfectionism, depression, relationship struggles, trauma, life transitions, and questions of identity and belonging. I’m particularly drawn to working with people who feel caught between worlds, whether that’s cultures, life chapters, or different versions of themselves. As a Shanghai-born, U.S.-educated Asian woman who practices in both English and Mandarin Chinese, I bring my own experience of that in-between to the room. But my clients come from all walks of life, and what I care most about is that you feel genuinely seen, whatever your background.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I received my Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Teachers College, Columbia University, and am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) in New York State. My approach is integrative, because I believe no two people arrive at therapy the same way. I draw from a range of evidence-based frameworks, including Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and I tailor how I work to fit you, not the other way around.
