Getting to know Timothy Popma
I am looking forward to working with you! To me, counseling is a shared partnership in which we work together to explore solutions that fit your life. My role as your counselor is to be a listener, witness, and facilitator in assisting you with your goals. I hold a Master's in Counseling from Central Michigan University, which has equipped me with the skills to support you effectively.
I also want to acknowledge that choosing to engage in counseling can be a big step. I aim to honor that step and do my best to create an environment that is judgment-free and safe for you to engage in a way that is ultimately helpful for you.
What should a new client know about working with you?
I see clients virtually only via Telehealth video chat. I hold sessions in the evening only (after 5:00pm or as late as 10:00pm). I understand that life is messy and can adapt to scheduling as you need. That might include a consistent weekly/bi-weekly time or scheduling week to week as needed.
What is your typical process for working with clients?
I will show up to every session ready to work with you to make choices, changes or cope appropriately with either. I want nothing more than to help you process whatever you need in an effort to improve your life. I will do my absolute best to create a safe space to encourage the healing needed for whatever brought you to therapy.

Tim has helped immeasurably. He is thoughtful, a true listener, and professional but also emphathetic. My work is intense and stressful. Counseling has made life so much better in terms of handling the stress of work with family/life balance. Counseling with Tim has improved my understanding of myself and my reactions as well as my relationships with my family. There has been a fundamental and positive change since beginning counseling. This is something I will continue for years to come.
