Getting to know Tova Mccall

I am a licensed clinical social worker providing virtual and in-person therapy for adults, older teens, and couples. My work focuses on helping clients navigate anxiety, trauma, life transitions, and relationship challenges with greater clarity and resilience. I use an integrative, evidence-based approach tailored to each individual, drawing from modalities such as CBT, DBT, EMDR, IFS, and the Gottman Method. My style is warm, collaborative, and goal-oriented, while also creating space for deeper exploration and long-term healing. I have specialized training in perinatal mental health and support clients through pregnancy, postpartum, and the transition into parenthood. I also work with individuals looking to build self-confidence, strengthen boundaries, and develop more fulfilling relationships. My goal is to provide a supportive, nonjudgmental environment where clients feel understood while also being challenged to grow in meaningful, sustainable ways.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Starting therapy can feel like a big step, and it’s important to know what you’re walking into. My approach is collaborative, structured when helpful, and always tailored to you. Some sessions may feel more practical and skill-based, while others will focus on deeper patterns, relationships, and past experiences. I tend to be active in sessions. I’ll ask thoughtful questions, offer reflections, and provide tools you can use between sessions. I won’t just sit back and nod, but I also won’t push you faster than you’re ready to go. We’ll move at a pace that feels both safe and productive. I draw from evidence-based approaches like CBT, DBT, EMDR, IFS, and the Gottman Method, depending on your goals. That means we might work on managing anxiety in the moment, processing past experiences, improving communication, or understanding recurring patterns in your life and relationships. You don’t need to come in with everything figured out. Part of the process is helping you get clearer on what you’re feeling and what you need. Over time, the goal is for you to feel more confident, more grounded, and better equipped to handle what life brings.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

We’ll start with an initial session focused on understanding what brings you to therapy, your current symptoms, relevant history, and what you’re hoping to get out of the work. From there, we’ll collaborate on clear goals so treatment feels focused and meaningful. Ongoing sessions are typically 45 minutes and adjusted based on your needs. We usually begin by checking in on what’s felt most important or challenging since the last session. From there, we may focus on a specific situation, practice skills (such as managing anxiety or improving communication), or explore underlying patterns and past experiences that are impacting you now. Depending on your goals, I may incorporate structured techniques (like CBT or DBT skills), trauma-focused work (such as EMDR), or relational work (including Gottman-informed strategies for couples). I also often suggest practical tools or reflections to work on between sessions so progress continues outside of therapy. Throughout the process, we’ll periodically check in on your goals and adjust our approach as needed to make sure the work stays relevant and effective.

More information on payments and coverage

I am an out-of-network provider, which means I do not bill insurance directly. However, many insurance plans offer out-of-network benefits that can significantly reduce the cost of therapy. If your plan includes these benefits, you may be eligible for reimbursement after meeting your deductible. Depending on your plan’s coinsurance, many clients are reimbursed for a portion of each session, often bringing the total cost down to a range comparable to in-network care. I provide monthly superbills that you can submit to your insurance company for reimbursement. I’m also happy to guide you on how to check your out-of-network benefits so you have a clear understanding of your coverage. Payment is due at the time of each session and can be made via secure electronic methods.
