Getting to know Tricia Schwartz

Life is full of transitions at every age and stage. I often help clients navigate adapting to change, breaking ineffective habits, personal and professional development, family dynamics, healthy lifestyle choices, anxiety, trauma, grief and loss, and relationships. My counseling approach is influenced by Person-Centered, Cognitive Behavioral, and Motivational Interviewing practices. I emphasize my clients' phenomenological world-the world as you experience it. You are the expert on your own life; this principle is the foundation of my counseling relationships. My therapeutic style is warm, client-centered, and practical. I aim to provide a caring, responsive, and safe space that allows clients to engage in self-exploration and growth. I enjoy working with people to help them understand and become the best version of themselves. As a professional trained with a Master's in Counseling from City University of New York, Hunter College, I relate to the distinct needs and challenges millennials face regarding transitions, relationships, goal setting, and career and personal development. This understanding, combined with my training, enables me to connect with clients and support them in reaching their goals and making profound changes. I am also passionate about helping children and adolescents overcome their unique age-specific challenges. Working empathically with individuals and families, we uncover patterns that aren't working and replace them with more effective behaviors. In essence, I help young people harness their personal strengths and potentials to perform at their best. By establishing open, responsive dialogue, we create a space for you to consider and make significant changes that benefit your life, on your terms. Book now, and we will contact you to confirm.

What should a new client know about working with you?

***I have a team of providers on my staff. While we do not work directly with any insurance plans, we do have low-fee counseling services available, starting at $50. Book an appointment to learn more*** In therapy I draw from multiple approaches to craft unique treatment plans for clients. I've found that many clients benefit from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). These modalities emphasize focusing on the present instead of ruminating on the past & enable you to see how your thoughts and feelings influence your behavior. Through Motivational Interviewing, you will have the opportunity to reflect on your intrinsic desire for change, helping you can stay committed to your goals. Reality Therapy helps assess whether or not your choices are moving you closer to the life you want. Through therapy you will learn to improve your self-awareness as well as replace negative thought patterns with more helpful beliefs and manage uncomfortable feelings when you encounter stressful situations. With the tools you gain in therapy you can navigate the challenges of life with self-assurance. Your personal toolbox will vary based on your goals circumstances and interests.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Working with me will feel calming and engaging. Before your first session, you will fill out an intake questionnaire with details about why you have chosen to seek counseling. During our first session, we will have an open-ended discussion about the challenges you are currently facing and your goals for therapy. Initial sessions typically last about one hour, while subsequent sessions will be about 45 minutes. During the first few sessions, I will focus on learning more about you, including your interests, relationships, things you do and do not prefer in therapy, and more. Together, we will determine your goals for therapy and I will suggest a plan or roadmap that will get you there. I am very collaborative and receptive to your feedback; I want the counseling experience to feel beneficial and meaningful to you.
