Getting to know Vadim Seylanov

At times, life can leave us feeling unheard and overwhelmed. Often we may judge ourselves as being entirely alone, struggling to catch up with our constantly changing world. We don’t have to be alone. Everyone could use some extra help in overcoming the challenges that arise in the pursuit of a fulfilling life and bridging past experiences with newfound opportunities. Coming together is what provides us with faith in our ability to change and adapt to new circumstances and environments. By understanding who we are and where we come from, we strengthen our resolve and garner resilience. As a Russian immigrant growing up in Brooklyn, I often felt out of place and unsure of who I wanted to be. Along the way, I had the good fortune of befriending some truly wonderful people who taught me how to express myself and feel confident, not as an outcast but as a remarkable and truly unique individual. In my work, I strive to create a place where one can safely and effectively explore one’s mind, foster growth, and discover new areas of interest. I believe therapy is a process which works best when clients are motivated, set intentions, and work collaboratively within the therapeutic alliance. I use an integrative approach utilizing Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT) covering a wide range of issues such as trauma, mood disorders, addiction, family and interpersonal conflict, and identity crises. I have additional experience working in both crisis intervention and substance abuse research. I received my Bachelor’s in Psychology from Macaulay Honors College and my Master’s in Mental Health Counseling and Wellness from NYU Steinhardt. For many years, I earned a living as a professional poker player, which I still view as one the most fascinating areas of applied psychology. In my spare time, I enjoy kiteboarding, skiing, hot yoga, watching sports, and going to concerts.

Working with Vadim has helped me grow in ways I didn’t expect. He’s calm, thoughtful, and gives space for reflection, which I’ve found super helpful. He doesn’t tell you what to do but instead guides you toward figuring it out in your own words. Our sessions have helped me feel more emotionally stable and less reactive, and I’ve learned how to handle stress and uncertainty in healthier ways. He’s the real deal.
Vadim brings a really steady, grounding energy to every session. Even when I’ve come in overwhelmed or all over the place, he’s been able to help me slow down, sort through things, and find clarity. He’s a great listener who never interrupta or pushes but when he does offer insight, it always lands. He’s helped me gain a much better understanding of my patterns and how to move through life with more intention and self-trust.
I am always thoroughly reassured during my sessions with Vadim. He has an absolutely phenomenal ability to remember even the smallest of details from our previous sessions and is always able to offer insightful and genuinely helpful advice and anslysis as to my situation and issues.
Vadim is not one of those counselors that just sits there and nods while giving platitudes. He gets straight to point, identifies goals and helps find what is getting in the way of achieving them. I made real prigress real fast.
Vadim is the man. Changed my life.
I feel really understood by Vadim. He gets me. He has given me solutions and perspective and given me xonfidence in myself. Thanks Vadim! You are the best!
