Psychotherapist

Hi there! I’m so happy you’ve stopped by. I’m Veda (she/her) a queer, neurodivergent, sex positive, kink/BDSM/sex work affirming, coffee snob who is also a therapist. Growing up queer and neurodivergent in a small conservative town, I understand the importance of having a safe space where you can explore all of the different facets of yourself. Because of this, I deeply value co-creating an environment with you where you feel empowered to show up authentically, to explore, nurture, and hold every facet of your identity with compassion. I spent my undergraduate years getting a dual degree in Philosophy and Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality studies while providing queer and affirming sexual health education on campus (and *secretly* being the condom fairy). During that time, I worked with SA/DV survivors and sex workers at a shelter as well. Post grad, I received my MSW from Columbia University and continued my work providing testing, resources, and sexual health education to LGBTQ/BIPOC folks. During this time, I also worked with adults with disabilities as a home care aid. I received a certification in prolonged grief treatment from the Prolonged Grief Institute and am currently obtaining a Traumatic Stress Studies Certificate. I work with individuals, couples, and polycules depending on your needs. For individuals, I see folks who identify as LGBTQ+, folks who are healing from sexual and/or relational trauma, who are navigating being neurodivergent in a world not created for their needs, working through grief, and/or folks working through burnout/exhaustion/and hopelessness hoping to find more joy in everyday life. For couples and polycules, I see people who are working through communication struggles and barriers, seeking support around intimacy, and navigating being in non-monogamous relationships.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I have recently seen other therapists describe themselves as a “chill therapist” and I strongly identify with this term. When I show up in the therapeutic space, I am showing up as a fellow human being, not a clinical robot. I believe that the best kind of healing happens from a place of being seen and letting others see you and it would be hypocritical to not show up as my full self for my clients. Because of this, my practice is rooted in relational, feminist, trauma-informed, and intersectional frameworks that address personal and systemic experiences. Queer and trans folks navigating identity issues - Neurodivergent folks (including ADHD and autism) working on self-esteem, self-acceptance, and regulation - Healing from sexual trauma and CPTSD - Couples and polycules navigating relationship challenges and communication barriers - Folks grappling with grief and loss

What is your typical process for working with clients?

I work with clients to figure out a session structure that works best for them and their needs which means that sessions may not look the same! During our first couple of sessions, clients and I work collaboratively to come up with a session structure. Most commonly a typical session looks something like this: greeting/formalities ? checking in on the week ? any important updates/things client needs to discuss ? focus on client created goal ? end session (mindfulness, somatic exercise, goodbyes). No structure is ever set in stone and I check back in frequently to see what/if needs to be tweaked. The short answer is: you get to create it!
