Psychotherapist
NY
I am a Psychotherapist at Chamin Ajjan Psychotherapy (CAPsych) and hold a Master’s degree in Social Work from Columbia University and a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology with a minor in Statistics from CUNY Hunter. CAPsych is a diverse group of highly skilled and trained therapists with a mission of providing warm, sensitive and effective treatment to help you cope with life’s stressors and live your best life. CAPsych therapists build a genuine rapport and therapeutic alliance with our clients, getting better outcomes. In addition, CAPsych is nationally recognized as a mental health leader, being the regional clinic for the National Social Anxiety Center and we are widely called upon for our expert contributions in print, video, digital media, podcast and more. I’m of the mind that therapy is both an art and a science; therefore, I commit myself to continuous education in diverse areas of practice—including mindfulness, trauma-informed care, sexual health and pleasure, and evidence-based practice. Throughout the cascades of trainings from elite institutions, however, I never lose sight of the notion that my clients are my greatest educators. As an individual and couples therapist, I believe that we all deserve a safe space to explore who we are and to heal from past and present challenges. I draw upon Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), and feminist theory to support this work. My work with couples centers around building strong relationships through mutual understanding, communication, and conflict management, as I have a background in the Gottman Method. At your comfort, we will bring into our sessions the techniques listed above, your own strengths and interests, and an array of tools and resources where appropriate. I believe that embedded in each of us are the tools and knowledge for self-reflection, growth, and healing. I work with clients to develop the insight and skills necessary to manage anxiety, depression, overwhelming emotions, relationship struggles, and to resolve past traumas. I understand that everyone’s path to wellness and happiness is unique; therefore, I am dedicated to forming an authentic relationship with each of my clients and learning from them in the process. My goal is to actively engage with my clients—while putting them at ease and offering support—as they find their best path forward.
