“Ginny is an excellent therapist. She’s been supporting me as I heal from an infidelity and breakup with my boyfriend, ongoing family challenges and a recent job loss. It's been a lot lately and having an objective person with whom I can talk things through as I figure out my life has been invaluable. Thank you for your sage wisdom and genuine kindness. I feel supported, heard and accepted. I highly recommend working with Ginny - she is a true professional and the most down to earth therapist I know. She understands what life is about. She’s the real deal.”

Getting to know Virginia (Ginny) Paige

Hello! I look forward to connecting with you. I support adults and children who are struggling to manage many types of losses and the changes that loss brings. Grief is an emotion often reserved for the passing of someone meaningful to us, but it's also a normal response to life transitions such as job loss, a ruptured relationship, an accident, the death of a pet, illness, or an empty nest. These transitions may leave you grieving the loss of an idea, an expectation of what your life looked like or where it was going. Whether you have a support system or not, loss can isolate a person from others. You may feel pressure to be doing better than you are or to be further along an arbitrary timeline. Well-intentioned comments that don't meet you where you are can leave you feeling even more alone. Everyone needs time and space to acknowledge and grieve the ending of a part of life as we once knew it. A common misconception is that to move forward, we just have to jump back into normal life. But the fear of getting stuck in grief can keep us from allowing ourselves to sit with it. Allowing ourselves to grieve keeps us open to the resources we need to learn to cope with and manage our pain. It can feel messy at times, but when we learn to be okay with the mess, the pressure to be at a certain point in our journey lessens. Acknowledging and grieving life's many transitions is necessary-not to forget our losses, but to remember with more ease. Give yourself the time and space to be with your loss without judgment. I support adults and children (ages 4-9) using a combination of talk therapy, EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) therapy, and play therapy for kids. I hold a Certificate in Advanced Clinical Practice from New York University.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I deeply respect you and your experiences and that you know yourself best. I also believe that validation can be extremely healing, it’s something we all need, to feel understood and heard for who we are. My hope is that you’ll move at a pace that feels right for you, knowing that you are in control and have my support and acceptance throughout. At any given time, sessions may feel comforting, encouraging, empowering, transformative, uncomfortable, discouraging or tiring, to name just a few emotions. Some feelings will be hard for you to sit with, but in my experience, decrease and pass as grieving happens. In other words, sometimes it gets a little worse before it gets better and that’s okay. It’s the motion that’s important. I’m here to be present with you in your loss.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

I provide a welcoming and accepting space for you to explore and process your loss. Pre-session involves completing paperwork through a HIPAA-compliant client portal. I deeply value privacy and this is apparent in my practice’s policies and procedures. During the first session, we'll talk about what has brought you to therapy at this time and identify therapy goals. While helpful, I don’t focus too heavily on history at this time. If you’re feeling stuck in one or more areas of life and experiencing grief or loss due to the passing of someone in your life, a strained relationship (past or present), difficulty managing upsetting life experiences, trauma, or you’d like to better understand your thoughts and interactions, these are some reasons to consider scheduling a session. Once a client and I decide to work together, I recommend that we simply start in the moment in the first session and allow the session to unfold. I incorporate talk therapy, EMDR and simply listening, bearing witness to your lived experiences. Parents and Caregivers: I'm often asked whether virtual therapy really works for kids. As a Registered Play Therapist, I can wholeheartedly say, yes! Parents have shared that virtual play therapy sessions work for both logistical and emotional safety reasons. Virtual therapy eliminates the pressure of arriving to sessions on time, while contending with busy schedules and transit delays. Parents and kids have reported that kids can experience deep levels of healing when processing emotions from home, resulting in increased courage and confidence when interacting in the world. Wonderful connection can occur virtually and in my experience, truly as meaningful as face-to-face sessions.

Ginny is a gifted therapist -- professional, kind and so human. I went to Ginny for help with self esteem challenges and feeling that I couldn’t trust my judgment, even with the smallest of choices. We worked on this for awhile and although I felt heard and understood, I still felt incapable. Ginny suggested we try EMDR. I used to think that EMDR is only used to help people heal from big, traumatic events. Turns out, this is just one of the reasons people try EMDR. I learned that even a passing comment can get stuck in my nervous system. Over several sessions, EMDR shifted a memory that previously made me feel shame and incompetence so that it no longer upset me. I remember the memory vividly, but no more charge. I feel lighter and noticed I’ve been kinder to myself since I reprocessed this memory. I will continue sessions with Ginny and see where it takes me. Thank you, Ginny. Highly recommend.
I feel so fortunate that Ginny is my therapist. She's highly skilled, kind, validating and authentic and has been hugely helpful in my healing from a recent trauma. She uses talk psychotherapy and EMDR. I’m making progress on old and new wounds and I feel relieved and hopeful about getting some closure. Ginny also taught me effective and quick techniques to calm my nervous system, as I tend to get anxious and I’m not good at meditating. I highly recommend working with Ginny, she is a wonderful soul.
I was very impressed by Ginny -- first, she was punctual (and continues to be) for the start of my sessions, which is important to me. Second, Ginny listened to me and was thoughtful and caring in her responses. I'm glad I did the research and chose her; it's vital to me to feel comfortable with my therapist and know that she and I will form a bond to help me through my present situation.
excellent therapist .. patient and listens.
