“Vivian is a wonderful therapist. Her method and manner makes you feel comfortable, heard, and listened to. I came to her while I was struggling with depression, anxiety, and a bad break up. She helped me manage all of these things, and work past them. If you’re looking for a therapist with empathy, who is generous, thoughtful, and who asks you the right questions when dealing with a personal situation, I recommend Vivian Bader. I meant to see her for a few sessions… It’s now been years and I’m still a patient. ”

Getting to know Vivian Bader

It's perfectly normal and expected to experience ambivalence about starting therapy. One fear is that talking about concerns will make things worse. In my experience of over 30 years, I have found that the process must feel supportive and safe. The therapeutic process will enrich a person's strengths and help them understand what they want to change. This can only be done with supportive, thoughtful listening and exploration, which will deepen insight and create opportunity for profound change. I hold a Master's in Social Work from Columbia University, which has provided me with a strong foundation to guide clients through this transformative journey.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I am analytically trained, however my approach is interactive and supportive and tailored to the patient. I enjoy working in this way and have had a great deal of success in helping patients live more fulfilled lives during my many years of practice. I explore issues with the patient and get to know their history over time. This will deepen our understanding of the current conflicts that brought them to therapy and will clear the way for positive changes to occur.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

It's helpful to hear what brings someone to therapy. It's important to get a good understanding of their concerns. It's also helpful for patients to begin subsequent sessions by talking about whatever is on their mind. I work analytically with patients to help them understand themselves and their conflicts on a deep level, however my style is interactive and warm.

I saw Vivian Bader for three and a half years. She's an extraordinary therapist -- warm, compassionate, empathetic and highly knowledgeable. She immediately put me at ease, and I opened up right away, sharing very intimate details about my life and the issues I was facing. But she did more than just listen. She was always very active in my therapy, engaging in conversation, offering professional opinions and making illuminating connections with what I'd said before, sometimes from months in the past. I can't recommend her highly enough!
I firmly believe Vivian’s greatest strength as a therapist is that she listens and makes you feel heard. I had never been to therapy before but she has become someone who I can feel comfortable talking to about how I’m really feeling. I came to Vivian to deal with grief but she has helped me in so many other areas of my life. She approaches our sessions with compassion, empathy and even a little humor. She has become someone I feel I can trust and has helped me feel better about myself. Vivian is an experienced therapist who really cares about her patients and I would definitely recommend her to anyone seeking a better understanding of themselves.
