Getting to know Wei-Yuan (Cheryl) Chen

Most people who reach out to me have been sitting with something for a while. Relationship stress, life feeling off, or just not feeling like themselves. Taking that first step isn't easy and I don't take it lightly. I genuinely love people's stories and I care about the people I work with. This isn't just a job for me and I think you'll feel that. I see adults and teens virtually in New York and New Jersey in English, Mandarin and Taiwanese. Columbia University trained. I don't do medication. Quit Note: Before booking, take a look at the Additional Information section below with insurance guidance.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I'm honest and genuinely curious about you. I'm not here to tell you what to do or hand you a list of advice. I'm here to help you figure out what actually matters to you so you can make decisions that feel right and make changes that are actually within your control. People ask me what progress looks like. Here's what I tell them: when you start doing more of what matters and less of what doesn't, that's not just progress. That's the whole point

What is your typical process for working with clients?

The first session is pretty simple. I'll ask you what brings you in. Some people come in knowing exactly what they want to work on. Others just know something feels off but can't quite name it yet. Both are completely fine. We'll figure it out together. We might talk a little about your background and history if you're comfortable, but nothing is required. We'll also talk about what you're hoping to get out of therapy because there's no one size fits all formula here. What works for one person might not work for another. Whatever brings you in, we'll start there.

Cheryl is an absolute gem. Her whole vibe is incredibly calming and welcoming. She actually gives helpful feedback and makes me feel seen. Highly recommended
Honestly, it’s hard to find a therapist who actually gets it, but Cheryl is great. She's a fantastic listener but also offers real perspective and practical advice when I need it. I never feel judged, even when I'm venting about the heavy stuff. Truly a safe space :)
