“Second time seeking therapy and, first time, seeing William Park. He was very patient and understanding and didn't make me feel rushed. He listened to everything I said with an open mind and was already providing insight into our discussions as well as providing possible formats of future sessions that may help with issues that were discussed. He made me feel relaxed and comfortable enough to be able to speak freely with him. Will definitely be seeing him again and would recommend seeing him.”

Getting to know William Park

William (Will) Park is a Mental Health Counselor based in Queens, New York. He works with adolescents and adults ranging from early teens to middle age, representing various cultural backgrounds. Many of William's clients seek support when experiencing symptoms of anxiety, depression, OCD, and major life changes. Having experienced these symptoms firsthand, William is passionate about serving these populations. Will is trained in Person-Centered Counseling and CBT. While Person-Centered Counseling provides a warm, client-driven relationship involving empathy and rapport, CBT addresses the links between a person's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors in response to certain situations. In sessions, Will focuses on developing self-awareness and new ways of thinking that can lead to meaningful changes in a person's life. This approach empowers clients to create genuine solutions rooted in their values. Will's style combines empathic listening with critical yet gentle questioning. When a client first comes in, Will establishes a safe, nonjudgmental space to understand clients in their entirety, including their relationships, school, work, cultures, and past. As the relationship strengthens and goals are established, William aims to dive deeper into the client's psyche by evaluating how thought patterns have been established and how they show up today. As a therapist, Will provides a relationship that promotes insight and self-discovery. Will earned his Master’s in Mental Health Counseling at St. John’s University and his Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from NYU. He gained experience as an MHC Intern at Aristotle Psychological and Biofeedback Services during his graduate program and as an Employment Skills Coordinator at AHRC, providing services to people with developmental disabilities. These experiences enable Will to serve under the motto of “People First,” understanding clients as humans first before any condition or issue.

What should a new client know about working with you?

New clients should expect therapy to be a highly individualized, personal process. As such, it is important to realize there may not be an "easy" answer or immediate results. With any meaningful pursuit in life, there will be ups and downs throughout the process as well. I will be there to celebrate the victories, and support you through the lows. I am also human and a growing therapist, so I am open to feedback and will be learning throughout our time together. My main objective however, is that we do all of these things together and collaborate. It is my firm belief that you contain the greatest power as a client and retain all of the "answers" - it is my job to ask the right questions and get you to them.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

My typical process for therapy can be summarized into three stages. The first stage involves information gathering. Although clients may have already filled an extensive form listing information before starting therapy, it is my job to thoroughly work through and gather the "data" of your life. This can include information about relationships, family, work, school, cultures, potential legal and drug/alcohol history, and so on. Although it may seem extensive, I view this process as paying respect to the complicated lives that all humans experience. The next stage involves intervention. Most times I will first try to utilize psychoeducation on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and the idea that thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are all connected. We will identify possible thought patterns that relate to issues at hand, and use techniques such as reframing, behavioral experiments, and mindfulness. However, I understand this type of therapy may not be suited for all issues, and I am open to utilizing different techniques or models of therapy as well. As positive outcomes hopefully arise, the last stage will be monitoring progress and preparing for the future. The ideal outcome of therapy is to have you be able to function and succeed without therapy. As a result, we will be focusing on what has worked and what has not throughout the process, and try our best to prepare for difficult situations that may arise in the future.

Will has been nothing but accommodating, helpful, and supportive for the entirety of the time I saw him. He’s receptive to new ideas pitched by the client, and is always willing to break new ground in terms of making sessions impactful. I cannot recommend Will enough.
When I first met William, I was going through a time in life I thought I would never see myself in. I never thought I would sit down and speak with a therapist in my life. However, spending time with William made me realize therapy isn't such a scary thing. He made me feel very comfortable and was not a judgemental person. His presence and strategies helped me a lot. I'm very grateful to have been one of his first patients.
