Getting to know William Petzel

I believe that therapy, at its core, is about feeling accepted and understood. I meet clients where they are, respecting their autonomy, innate capacity to change, and sense of self. I do not shy away from humor in session and truly believe in the human connection at the heart of the therapeutic alliance. I earned my Master’s in Clinical Social Work from Fordham University at Lincoln Center, which has deeply informed my approach. Ultimately, therapy should serve the client, and though it will not always be easy, I do believe that it should feel rewarding and rooted in trust.

What should a new client know about working with you?

As a therapist, I strive to be relatable and non-judgmental, offering culturally-competent therapy which is respectful of race, class, gender, and preference. My primary approach is psychodynamic, but I am also comfortable with CBT, DBT, MIndfullness, Narrative, Relational, and Solution-Focused approaches as well, depending on the needs of my clients.
